Liverpool returned to winning ways in the Premier League this weekend with a 3-0 win against AFC Bournemouth.

Luis Diaz was again the star of the show for the Reds as the Colombia international scored a first-half brace to put Liverpool on their way to a big win at Anfield, with Darwin Nunez scoring the third and final goal of the match.

Seen crying after scoring his first goal of the season, Nunez’s performance was a needed one for the Uruguay international, with Andy Robertson also praising the striker after his impressive display against Bournemouth.

And Arne Slot was also pleased by what he saw from Nunez against the Cherries.

Nunez’s work-rate praised as Liverpool man stars vs Bournemouth

Speaking to the press at full-time, the Dutch coach hailed Nunez’s work-rate and for adding that needed fire-power Liverpool were looking for in this game, with the Reds blitzing Bournemouth with three goals in 37 minutes.

Although Diaz stole the headlines, Nunez was also greatly impressive on the day for Liverpool, with the former Benfica man in need of a confidence boost after an underwhelming start to the season under new manager Slot.

Yet the former Feyenoord manager was seemingly pleased with what he saw from Nunez, with Slot hailing the Uruguay international and giving the striker the flowers he deserves after scoring his first goal of the new season.

Slot said on Nunez’s performance “We hope we are adding goals [to his game] because that is what you need from a striker, but his work rate was really good. We have a lot of good players, a lot of competition, and as long as they keep performing it is a very good thing for me.”

Nunez’s season starts here after first Liverpool goal

Into his third season at Liverpool, Nunez is fully aware that this year is make-or-break for the Reds having had two mixed campaigns leading the line for the Anfield giants, with Slot bringing in new ideas to the club.

Yet with a goal and a good performance now under his belt, Nunez’s season can kick off from here, with the 25-year-old attacker seemingly intent on pushing himself as far as he can go in starting for Liverpool in the attack.

One goal and one strong display is all it takes for a forward to regain their confidence, and Nunez’s performance against Bournemouth could do just that for the Liverpool striker, who could become a real weapon for Slot this season.
