Alisson cannot believe what one ‘special’ Liverpool player has been doing at the club

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson has enjoyed a superb season so far, with the number one keeping three successive clean sheets.

Alisson shone against Manchester United, with the match representing the first major test for Arne Slot at Liverpool.

But the Dutchman and his players passed the test with flying colours, with Luis Diaz scoring twice and Mohamed Salah adding a third.

Both attackers have scored three goals so far this season, with the duo certain to want to add to their tallies against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Salah also has three assists to his name, with Diaz on one, while fellow forward Diogo Jota has one goal and one assist.

They have been key to Slot’s superb start to life at Liverpool, as has Alisson and his backline, who are yet to concede.

The goalkeeper has, however, praised his attacking teammates, singling out Egyptian winger Salah in particular.

“He is a special player but he makes it look normal,” Alisson told the Liverpool website. “But when you look to his numbers, it’s unbelievable.

“The way Lucho is playing as well – his contribution to the team, his goalscoring, his movements, the things he can do when he has the ball.”

Thanks to his three goals and three assists from his opening three matches, Salah now boasts 214 goals and 92 assists in his Reds career so far.

And given the style of football that Slot wants his team to play, the numbers don’t look like slowing down anytime soon.

The only worry for the Anfield faithful, however, is Salah leaving the club, with his contract set to expire next summer.

He is undoubtedly still the club’s main man going forward, although Alisson does appreciate the defensive work that Salah and his fellow attackers are carrying out on the pitch.

“But what I want to highlight is the hard work of these guys defensive-wise,” added Alisson. “They are running a lot, they are working so hard for the team when they don’t have the ball – I think this is what is making us win these games at the beginning of the season.

“So we have to keep those things ongoing – not only Mo and Lucho but the other boys as well, Diogo, the midfielders, the line of four, everybody. We are working so hard and this is what should be the highlight from our side.”

There is also doubt over the future of the club’s number one given the signature of Giorgi Mamardashvili, but Alisson says he still has a lot to offer Liverpool.
