Liverpool player now told by Lee Carsley what he must do if he wants England call-up

Liverpool have entered into a new era this summer under Arne Slot, and England have now done the same with new interim manager Lee Carsley.

The former Republic of Ireland international made the leap from England’s U-21s to the senior role earlier this summer after Gareth Southgate’s departure from the role, with Carsley impressing early on in the position.

A comfortable win against Ireland in which Trent Alexander-Arnold starred for England got Carsley off to a dream start in the hot seat for the Three Lions, with Finland coming up next for the former Everton midfielder.

And Carsley has now spoken to one Liverpool player on how he can be selected for England.

Jarell Quansah shares England selection talk with Carsley

Speaking to the Times, Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah revealed how Carsley sat down with the youngster to discuss what the centre-back needs to do in order to be named in England’s senior squad for upcoming international breaks.

The Liverpool prospect was named in England’s squad this summer before the Euros with Quansah viewed as an option for the Three Lions heading into the future, with the 21-year-old a regular for the Reds.

And Carsley seems intent on keeping Quansah in the England set-up, with the defender saying: “I came to the camp and he pulled me [in] straight away. He basically told me what I needed to do to be in the squad.

“Ultimately, it’s playing more and more games. As long as I’m competing with the best players in Europe in my position, I think that will come hand-in-hand with possibly getting a chance with the seniors.”

Quansah can become an England regular before the 2026 FIFA World Cup

Quansah exploded onto the scene last season with Liverpool as the Kirkby academy graduate established himself as one of the most exciting defensive prospects in the Premier League under Jurgen Klopp.

And for England, there’s a real chance Quansah can become a regular for the Three Lions if the defender can live up to the expectations set by Carsley heading into the new season.

At 21, Quansah is very much at the start of his career for club and country, and the defender has all the skills needed to become a top player for Liverpool and England in the years to come.
