Arne Slot has had a perfect start to life as Liverpool manager, with the Dutch coach already making some big calls in the first three games.

The Premier League opener against Ipswich Town saw Slot bring off Jarell Quansah at half-time for Ibrahima Konate, with the change proving to be a stroke of genius as Liverpool reclaimed control of the match and went on to win 2-0.

Like most things in football these days, though, the moment was blown out of proportion by fans and the media, with Gary Neville calling the decision ‘brutal’ given how embarrassing it might have been for a young player like Quansah.

And the defender has now shared what happened behind the scenes with Slot after the incident.

Quansah reveals he now understood the change after Slot talk

Speaking to the Times, Quansah shared how Slot met with him to discuss the decision after the Ipswich game, with the England youth international admitting that he thinks the reasons given by the Liverpool coach were more than fair.

Quansah said about the incident: “It’s never a nice feeling as a footballer to be subbed off at half-time. But at the end of the day, it was the gaffer’s decision — obviously it worked. I can only focus on myself and try to improve.

“I purposely trained the next day so I could get it out of my head and kick on and look forward to the next game, really. That’s all it’s ever been, I’ve just been waiting for the opportunity.

“The next day he pulled me in. Basically, he just went through his mindset and why he made the decision, ultimately. I think the reasons he gave me were fair enough.”

Slot might have only taken charge of three games for Liverpool this season, yet early signs strongly suggest that the former Feyenoord man could be the perfect successor for Jurgen Klopp.
