Ryan Gravenberch and Luis Diaz left impressed by what £34m Liverpool player did on international duty

Liverpool stars Ryan Gravenberch and Luis Diaz are among the players representing their nations in the current international break.

Diaz earned rave reviews for his latest Colombia display, while his Liverpool teammate Caoimhin Kelleher has been praised for his Ireland display versus England.

Arne Slot will be watching his players closely throughout the break, both to see how they perform and also their fitness levels.

Injuries will be the last thing that the Anfield boss wants in these early stages of the season, particularly after such a strong start.

Fortunately it will be easy for Slot to keep a close eye on three of his star men in particular given that Virgil van Dijk, Gravenberch and Cody Gakpo are all Netherlands internationals.

And all three started for their nation in their Nations League clash over Bosnia and Herzegovina on Saturday, which the Netherlands won 5-2.

Van Dijk and Gravenberch played the entire match, while Gakpo was withdrawn in the 66th minute, 10 minutes after he found the back of the net.

He was also presented with the Euro 2024 Top Scorer award on the night, sharing the award with five other players after his three goals at the summer tournament.

A handful of his Liverpool teammates have now reacted, with Diaz posting the fire emoji under Gakpo’s latest Instagram post, while Gravenberch wrote ‘+1’.

Liverpool captain Van Dijk also reacted with a heart emoji, with Gakpo’s compatriots Jurrien Timber and Joshua Zirkzee among the other players sending him messages.

The attacker has been hugely impressive for his nation in recent years, having also shone at the 2022 World Cup, after which Gakpo joined Liverpool for £35million.

He is a really crucial player for his nation, but that hasn’t been the case for the attacker under Slot so far this season.

Gakpo is yet to start under his new manager, instead appearing from the bench in the wins against Ipswich, Brentford and Man United.

The attacker remains behind Diaz, Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota in the pecking order, with that trio hard to disrupt after their stunning displays.

And things will only get worse for Gakpo after the arrival of Federico Chiesa, although more minutes should definitely arrive in the coming weeks given Liverpool’s busy schedule.
