Liverpool’s predicted XI vs Man United as Arne Slot makes Federico Chiesa decision and £35m man keeps his place

Liverpool take on Manchester United on Sunday with the chance to make it three wins from three in the Premier League.

A trip to Old Trafford is a big test for the mettle of any Liverpool boss and Arne Slot has some decisions to make with his starting XI. Here’s how we think the Dutchman will line the Reds up.

Defence

There has been a lot of chatter about Liverpool’s goalkeeping department since the Reds last played. Giorgi Mamardashvili was signed while Caoimhin Kelleher ultimately stayed put, too.

Both will still have to defer to Alisson Becker for a little while, though. The Brazilian is very much Liverpool’s number one.

We think it’s likely that Alisson will have an unchanged back four in front of him this week, too.

That will mean Trent Alexander-Arnold starting after his touchline strop last week, with Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson going again as well.

The one question mark could be at centre-back again, with Slot picking Jarell Quansah and then Ibrahima Konate so far.

But Konate was brilliant against Brentford and there’s no reason for the £35m to come out.

Midfield

Plenty of supporters would have been hoping that Liverpool would have new option to pick from in the midfield for their trip to Old Trafford.

But having failed to sign anyone in the final days of the window, the Reds will have to go once more with what they have.

Again, we can’t see why Slot would change things from the previous two games, and that will mean that the trio of Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai will get a further chance to gel.

Attack

Unlike the midfield, Liverpool’s attack did get an extra face added to it this week. Slot has admitted that Federico Chiesa is unlikely to feature against United, though.

And although Chiesa has been in training with the Reds since Friday, we think the head coach will stay true to his initial decision and keep the Italian back for this one.

While that is a shame, Liverpool fans shouldn’t be too upset. Their attack has been on fire already without Chiesa this season.

Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah have four goals and three assists so far between them this season and we think they’ll get the chance to add to that on Sunday. All three will start.
