Troy Deeney says he’s ‘going to get in trouble’ for his Liverpool vs Man United score prediction

With the transfer window now closed, Liverpool can get back to focusing on matters on the pitch.

The Reds had a disappointing summer on the whole, with many fans feeling they failed to properly address frailties in defence and midfield.

Nevertheless, Liverpool have started well under Arne Slot. The Reds have won two games out of two, keeping a clean sheet in both matches.

With respect to both Ipswich and Brentford, though, comfortably the biggest test of Slot’s Liverpool career so far will come on Sunday as Liverpool head to Old Trafford.

Man United vs Liverpool is one of the biggest games of the Premier League season, and with the two teams now managed by Dutch coaches, there is an extra level of spice to the match.

Troy Deeney gives Man United vs Liverpool prediction

As the end of the transfer window has distracted the football world, there has perhaps not been quite the build-up there usually would be for this Sunday’s game.

Despite that, several pundits have already weighed in with their predictions.

Paul Merson thinks Man United will get some joy out of Liverpool, while former Reds midfielder Danny Murphy has predicted Slot’s team to win.

The latest to give an insight is former Watford striker Troy Deeney.

Giving his predictions for the Premier League weekend on TikTok, Deeney claimed that his take on the game at Old Trafford could perhaps be controversial.

“Biggest game of the weekend,” says the pundit. “I think the way Liverpool have started, they have been flying. Salah is off to the race, Van Dijk looks like a Rolls-Royce as always, and Trent is flying as well, Jota looks the nine.

“This is a perfect game for Man U, though, having said all that, because they get to be at home and sit behind the ball and counter-attack.

“I think, I am going to get in trouble for this, I think Liverpool will absolutely do a job on them,” Deeney predicts. “They have got so much pace, but Man U have looked more structurally sound. I am going to go 3-1 Liverpool.”

Liverpool team news ahead of Man United clash

With all eyes having been on a sluggish transfer window for Liverpool, it will be nice to get back to the real stuff this weekend.

Slot’s squad is now formalised until the January market opens and having added Federico Chiesa to the mix this week, Liverpool have plenty of firepower.

Slot has confirmed that Chiesa is unlikely to play against United, although the Italian looked sharp during his first training session with the Reds on Friday.

Another set to miss out is Curtis Jones. Jones is still injured after missing last week’s win over Brentford and the 23-year-old won’t be in the squad at Old Trafford.

Aside from Jones and potentially Chiesa, though, the latest information is that Liverpool have a full squad to pick from. Let’s hope Deeney is spot on with this.
