After an underwhelming transfer window, Liverpool still have time to put things right in the coming hours.
The Reds have not really addressed any of the problems they face in the squad by failing to sign either a midfielder or a centre-half.
That was not without trying, of course. Liverpool pushed hard to sign Martin Zubimendi and in another world could have signed Leny Yoro, too.
Nevertheless, the fact remains that unless something big happens very soon, Liverpool are going to kick the can down the road to future transfer windows.
The first of those is obviously coming up in January. And according to reports out of Mexico, Arne Slot could already be lining up his first signing of the winter.

Liverpool could come back for Cesar Huerta
Liverpool fans will still be hoping that some late, late business will be done to rectify their current issues.
There were reports early on Friday that the Reds had been in contact over signing Alan Varela. However, that subsequently seems like being a no-go for the time being.
Another move which failed to materialise over the final week of the transfer window was that of Pumas winger Cesar ‘Chino’ Huerta.
There were surprising claims from Mexico on Thursday that Liverpool were close to signing Huerta, who is a 10-cap Mexico international.

However, later reports suggested that Liverpool’s move for Huerta broke down after they failed to agree an appropriate club to loan him out to for the season.
Despite their failed attempts, ESPN Mexico now claim that the story may not be over between Liverpool and the 23-year-old.
They report that the Reds will keep ‘following’ Huerta in the coming months with a view to coming back for him in the January transfer window.
Liverpool set for busy January?
As their failed pursuits of Zubimendi and Yoro showed, Liverpool are well aware of the issues they need to sort within the first-team squad.
They will surely also know that they cannot wait forever to get them boxed off.
As a result, it does seem possible that – if everything is quiet today – Liverpool may be busier than usual in January.
By that time Slot will have had a proper amount of time and football to see what he really needs and who he needs to replace.
As a much lower profiled singing, Huerta feels to be slightly separate from that. But it does seems that the Reds have spotted something in him that they think is worth keeping track of. Watch this space.
