Liverpool head into transfer deadline day with some work still in need of being done.
The Reds are paying the price for a very sluggish summer and are left scrambling for late signings as a result.
A new defensive midfielder and a centre-back were seemingly on their shopping list heading into the summer. However, with less than 24 hours left in which to do business, Liverpool have signed neither.
It remains to be seen whether the gaps in the Liverpool squad will be plugged before Friday’s 11pm deadline.
In the meantime, there could be some outgoing business at Anfield, too. And ahead of seeing what the day will bring, Jamie Carragher has admitted to being ‘worried’ about one situation at his former club.

Although Liverpool’s incoming business has left a lot to be desired this summer, the positive news is that they have not lost any of their top players.
With the desire to strengthen the squad further obviously not really there, it was imperative that Liverpool kept hold of all of their biggest stars for Arne Slot to work with.
So far, they have done that with little difficulty. There does not feel to be a big bid coming in for Mohamed Salah, for example, as was the case last year.
Instead, the nervousness over Salah, along with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk, looks set to be kept back for next summer, when all three will be out of contract.
There had been some concern that a late bid may come in for Alexander-Arnold from Real Madrid, but that now looks unlikely to happen.

Nevertheless, speaking to Sky Sports News ahead of transfer deadline day on Friday, Liverpool legend Carragher admitted to being concerned about Trent’s situation in particular.
“I am a little bit more worried now about Trent what about last weekend in terms of coming off, the situation, looking a little bit frustrated,” said the former centre-back. “I am not sure what the hold-up is with that.
“I am sure that Liverpool have offered him as much as they possibly can, I imagine, the wages that Mo Salah and Van Dijk get.
“There’s obviously a lot of talk about Real Madrid. I was more confident about him maybe six months ago, but now, it feels like it has shifted. That’s the one that worries me a little bit.”
Could anyone leave Liverpool on deadline day?
While the Alexander-Arnold situation is no doubt extremely worrying from a Liverpool point of view, he’s virtually certain to be at the club beyond Friday.
If a mammoth offer did come in from somewhere then the Reds would perhaps have to consider it given the 25-year-old’s contract problem, but that doesn’t feel likely to happen.
Indeed, it also seems improbable that any of Liverpool’s big players will have any difficulty staying at Anfield as well.
The one big-ish name who could potentially leave before the deadline is Joe Gomez. There have been reports on Friday morning that Gomez may not still be a Liverpool player come Saturday morning.
As ever, there could be a surprise or two in store. But in terms of Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool will have extra time to get things sorted with him. That’s good, because it looks like they might need it.
