A round-up of the latest Liverpool news as Reds chiefs set their stance on the transfer of Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid and Joe Gomez also joining Crystal Palace.
Liverpool sign Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia
Liverpool have finally secured their first signing of the summer with the Reds finalising their deal with Valencia for the transfer of Giorgi Mamardashvili. But the Georgia goalkeeper will stay in La Liga for another term before moving to Merseyside in July 2025 as a Reds player.
The Anfield natives sought to snap Mamardashvili up for an initial £25m, rising by £4m after add-ons, to secure a potential future No1. Liverpool believe the 23-year-old – who turns 24 this September – can rival and, possibly, replace Alisson Becker as their first-choice stopper.

Mamardashvili convinced Liverpool to swoop this summer after staring at Euro 2024 to help Georgia reach the last 16. His efforts in Germany also followed the keeper making his 100th appearance for Valencia to end last season, throughout which he registered 31 clean sheets.

Liverpool are prepared to sell Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid
What future Trent Alexander-Arnold holds at Anfield could change quickly in the final hours of the transfer window. That is according to Mark Ogden, who reports that Liverpool will be prepared to consider selling the right-back to Real Madrid if Los Blancos submit a ‘big offer’.
It is unlikely that the 25-year-old will not be a Reds player still when the sales slam shut this Friday night. But hope lingers at the Santiago Bernabeu, where Real Madrid are prepared to wait until next summer and sign Alexander-Arnold as a free agent when his contract expires.
Liverpool and Alexander-Arnold are still yet to agree on a new contract with his current deal ending in June 2025. So, the door remains ajar for a late Galacticos move and the right offer could result in a deal for the Reds star Arne Slot has substituted in his two fixtures in charge.

Liverpool set their stance on Joe Gomez securing a late transfer to Crystal Palace
Liverpool do not intend to sell Joe Gomez over the last days of the summer transfer window. That is according to Graeme Bailey, who exclusively tells Rousing The Kop that Gomez is due to stay on Merseyside until at least January with no new centre-backs set to head to Anfield.
Doubts had grown around Gomez’s future this summer but Arne Slot intends to use the 27-year-old for defensive cover. Interest in Gomez’s transfer from Crystal Palace has also failed to materialise ahead of the window slamming shut on Friday, taking away one potential exit.
Slot including Gomez in the Liverpool squad that beat Brentford 2-0 last Sunday – albeit only as an unused substitute – was also an indication of his intention to retain the centre-back. It is not important that the Reds move Gomez on this summer as he is under contract to 2027.
