Liverpool have finally made a summer transfer window signing, with Giorgi Mamardashvili bought from Valencia.

Mamardashvili will join Liverpool next summer, with the goalkeeper set to remain at La Liga side Valencia until then.

A photograph of Mamardashvili in a Liverpool kit has emerged after the Reds agreed a deal for the 23-year-old.

Mamardashvili has 102 Valencia appearances to his name so far, keeping 31 clean sheets in all competitions.

The new Liverpool shot-stopper also boasts 21 caps for Georgia, having just helped the nation reach the last 16 of Euro 2024.

How did Alisson help Liverpool sign Giorgi Mamardashvili?

His 21 saves during the group stages were the joint-most of any goalkeeper in the competition’s history, with his impressive displays undoubtedly catching the eye of Liverpool’s recruitment team.

With Mamardashvili set to arrive next summer, Alisson is likely to remain the number one choice at Liverpool, but the Brazilian did help bring in the new goalkeeper.

As reported by BBC Sport, Alisson has been aware and supportive of the transfer, with his new Anfield teammate seen as being capable of strengthening the depth of talent in the goalkeeping department for the future.

The publication added that the Reds were forced to sign Mamardashvili now as they may not have been able to in the next 12-24 months given his rising stock.

Will Alisson still be Liverpool’s number one next season?

Valencia will certainly miss Mamardashvili, who has been at the Spanish club for three years since his move from Dinamo Tbilisi in 2021.

But they will be delighted to keep hold of his services for one final season, with the goalkeeper having started their first two matches of the new La Liga campaign.

He could then challenge Alisson for the number one spot at Anfield, although it will take some effort to topple the Brazilian.

Even Alisson’s deputy Caoimhin Kelleher will be hard to take over in the hierarchy, although the Georgian’s arrival is very likely to force the Ireland international out of the club.

Kelleher could even move on this summer, with the second-choice goalkeeper perhaps knowing there is very little future for him on Merseyside.
