Liverpool on the verge of sending ‘fantastic’ player on loan to Blackburn for the season

Liverpool have left it very late indeed to do their transfer business for the summer.

Having chosen to wait until Arne Slot had gotten a good read on every player available to him, the Reds have played a slightly risky game in the market.

Now left to play catch-up in the final days of the window, there looks likely to be plenty of movement both in and out of Anfield up until Friday’s deadline.

Obviously, the most exciting part of that will be the incomings. Liverpool are close to signing Giorgi Mamardashvili and on Monday it also emerged that the Reds are in the picture for Federico Chiesa.

But outgoings will also be a factor in all of that, too. And as Liverpool get their ducks in a row, one loan move is on the verge of being completed.

Owen Beck set for Blackburn loan

It has been interesting to watch as Slot attempts to get an idea on which of the Liverpool academy players he is likely to use this season.

The new head coach took his time in assessing the youngsters and while some will stick around the first-team squad, most of them look likely to be moved on.

Owen Beck is one who was used a little by Slot in pre-season, making two appearances amounting to around 44 minutes of action.

Beck was excellent on-loan at Dundee in 2023/24, but with Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas in his way, he is a little too far down the pecking order right now.

As a result, a move always looked likely. There were claims that Celtic wanted to buy Beck permanently, but according to journalist Elliott Jackson, the 22-year-old is heading to Blackburn Rovers on-loan.

“Rovers are in advanced talks to sign Owen Beck on loan,” Jackson reports. “Left-back from Liverpool who would give them some cover for Harry Pickering.

“Good relationship with Liverpool after previous deals. Spent last year at Dundee.”

Does Owen Beck have a future at Liverpool?

This looks like a decent move for Beck. As Jackson alludes to, Blackburn has been a happy hunting ground for a couple of Liverpool youngsters in the past.

Both Tyler Morton and Harvey Elliott spent successful seasons at Ewood Park before kicking on.

For Beck, this is a crucial season. Now 22, he should be aiming to really nail down a first-team spot wherever he is.

The Welshman has been deemed ‘fantastic’ by Liverpool U21s coach Barry Lewtas [liverpoolfc.om] and he showed last year that he can do it in men’s football. A step up to the Championship is a logical next move.

From there, there is still a chance that he can make it at Liverpool. Left-back will likely need looking at next summer as Robertson heads into his 30’s. If Beck can make the impact of, say, Conor Bradley at Bolton in 2022/23, then he could yet slot in as Liverpool’s Robbo successor.

All the best, Owen!
