Liverpool are entering the final few days of the summer transfer market with the genuine possibility of making zero new signings.
The Reds have had a really baffling off-season, failing to add a single new player to the first-team squad.
As Liverpool showed by beating Brentford 2-0 on Sunday, there are reasons for that. Arne Slot has indeed inherited a very able group from Jurgen Klopp.
However, tweaks and improvements can always be made and Liverpool supporters will still be hoping to see some late arrivals at Anfield.
And according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Reds are now pushing hard to make sure they bring in at least one new player.

Liverpool pushing for Giorgi Mamardashvili completion
It has been a frustrating summer for Liverpool. As teams around them have continued to strengthen, the Reds have stood still.
Thankfully, things have been going well on the pitch so far, with Slot showing that the Liverpool squad should still be considered as one of the best in the country.
Despite that, the risk of injuries and loss of form during a long and gruelling season will not go away.
As a result, it would be a huge risk from the Liverpool owners not to pull the trigger on any signing at all.

According to Romano, though, that is unlikely to happen. Taking to X on Monday morning, the reporter claims that Liverpool are very close to sealing a deal for Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.
“Liverpool are pushing to seal Giorgi Mamardashvili deal with new contacts with Valencia already scheduled,” says Romano.
“One more meeting will take place as agreement is done on €35m [£30m] fee plus sell-on clause, still negotiating on deal structure.
“Giorgi would stay at Valencia on loan.”
Will Liverpool make any more signings?
While Mamardashvili looks like a really good ‘keeper and a good bit of business for Liverpool, his addition does nothing to add depth to Slot’s squad right now.
With Alisson publicly confirming that he’s fully committed to Liverpool as well, the move to sign Mamardashvili is a bit of a strange one.
Meanwhile, there are other key areas that the Reds could do with improving upon immediately. Centre-back still looks short while central midfield needs a little more quality.
Nevertheless, as things stand, there are no suggestions that Liverpool will do anything else in the market.
Things are going well so far this season, but unless the Reds are incredibly successful between now and May, this window will go down as one of the worst in Liverpool’s history, Mamardashvili or not.
