Jamie Carragher says ‘fantastic’ Liverpool star is catching Arne Slot’s eye after Brentford win

Liverpool were once again in top form this afternoon as Arne Slot’s side brushed aside Brentford with a 2-0 win at Anfield.

The Dutch manager’s first win as head coach of the Reds was as routine as they came as Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah were on target for the Merseyside giants, with Liverpool keeping up the early pace with Arsenal and Manchester City.

With Slot’s celebration for Diaz’s opener raising eyebrows, the former Feyenoord man will be pleased with how his side performed against a good Brentford side, with Liverpool also keeping a vital clean sheet at home.

And Jamie Carragher was impressed with one Liverpool player in particular.

Carragher impressed by Dominik Szoboszlai’s early season form

Speaking on Sky Sports‘ coverage of the match, the Liverpool legend noted how Dominik Szoboszlai has seemingly made an impression on Slot already just two games into the new Premier League season.

The Hungary international was once again back in central midfield having put in a good performance last week against Ipswich, and Carragher things Slot could be the man to finally get the best out of Szoboszlai at Liverpool.

Carragher said on Szoboszlai’s early-season form for Liverpool: “I think he is a player who has come in certainly at the end of pre-season and last week he certainly impressed Arne Slot. In the main, a fantastic player there.

“We have seen in fits and starts until now in a Liverpool shirt, but the actual running power alone in terms of pressing and making runs in behind the opposition, it’s a fantastic strength to have. That’s before we talk about his passing ability or the long-range shooting he has.”

Szoboszlai needs a big year with the Reds under Slot

Szoboszlai’s first season at Liverpool was somewhat disappointing given the incredible amount of hype that was surrounding the Hungarian international shortly after arriving from RB Leipzig.

Which is why this year is so important for Szoboszlai, who under Slot will want to prove he can be a top midfielder for Liverpool and play a key role in this new era for the Reds for the Dutch coach.

Indeed, Szoboszlai has all the talent to become a superstar for Liverpool, and Slot needs to help bring out this world-class potential from the former Bundesliga star this season at Anfield.
