Liverpool are not ruling out the chance that £12m player could leave ‘out of nowhere’ next week

Liverpool could be in for a busy final week of the summer transfer window.

The Reds have so far packed all of their business into the last six days, sanctioning the exits of three first-team players.

And it looks like Fabio Carvalho, Bobby Clark and Sepp van den Berg may not be the only players moving on from Anfield.

Tyler Morton has plenty of interest in his services and may yet be sold, while Joe Gomez is the highest profile Liverpool player who’s future is currently in doubt.

While Gomez weighs up his options, though, it has now emerged that another member of Arne Slot’s defence could be about to leave, too.

Kostas Tsimikas could still leave Liverpool

Although it would be a real wrench to see Gomez go after an excellent nine-year spell with Liverpool, the Reds could cope with his absence.

A new centre-back would need to be brought in, of course, but that would surely be on the agenda if the No.2 leaves.

Obviously, in the middle of the defence is not Gomez’s only position, though. The 27-year-old spent most of last season filling in at left-back while Andy Robertson and then Kostas Tsimikas were injured.

If Gomez does go, then it leaves the coast clear for Tsimikas to continue as the main back-up to first choice Robertson.

However, according to journalist David Lynch, it is currently far from set in stone that the Greek himself will even be around come August 31st.

“I still do have this inkling about Tsimikas,” Lynch tells Anfield Agenda.

“Sources close to the player’s camp have been very tight-lipped in situations where maybe they previously wouldn’t be. It’s just making me think there’s something in this. I just feel this has got some legs to it.

“There’s only a week left of the window so if any club’s coming in they’ll have to move quickly to get this sorted. But I’ve just got a sneak that there’s something there,” adds the reporter.

“It might not absolutely come to something, but nobody at Liverpool and nobody on the player’s side is ruling that one out which they would do in concrete fashion in past windows.

“So, definitely, definitely keep an eye on that one. There could be developments out of nowhere over the next week.”

Liverpool should keep Kostas Tsimikas

Some eyebrows were raised earlier this summer when Tsimikas joked that he is leaving Liverpool for Real Betis.

That was just a bit of a banter with former teammate Adrian before the game against Betis in Pittsburgh. But given that there had already been doubt raised over Tsimikas’ Liverpool future, it felt a little pointed.

Since then, the £12m man has actually really kicked on under Slot. With Robertson once again injured, Tsimikas had the chance to stake his place in the starting XI.

While we think he ultimately did that very well, Slot still went with a fit again Robertson on last weekend’s opening day.

Now 28 and in his prime, you could understand Tsimikas wanting to get away and become a regular starter somewhere.

In our opinion, though, Liverpool will struggle to find a better back-up at this late stage of the window. Keep him around and reassess in January if needs be.
