Liverpool defender Kostas Tsimikas has endeared himself to the Anfield faithful with his actions on and off the pitch.

Tsimikas has a chance of making Arne Slot’s XI, with the Greek left-back having enjoyed a strong pre-season.

Liverpool beat Real Betis, Arsenal and Manchester United in the USA, with Tsimikas scoring his first Reds goal against the Red Devils.

Slot has taken his squad back to Merseyside following the tour, with the first Premier League game of the season rapidly approaching.

Tsimikas says training is intense under Slot, with the new manager doing his utmost to get his players in the best shape possible.

“That’s the way we play, everybody has confidence,” Tsimikas told the Liverpool website. “I think that is [because of] the very good, hard work we did with our new head coach, the new ideas.

“So, we just have to keep it up, just really work hard and do exactly what we can better.”

Will Kostas Tsimikas challenge Andy Robertson at Liverpool?

Tsimikas joined the Reds from Olympiacos in August 2020, and has largely operated as a deputy to Andy Robertson.

The Scotland international has been hard to replace given his displays at both ends of the pitch over the years.

But he is getting older, with Robertson also suffering various injury issues in recent times, making just 30 appearances in all competitions last season.

Tsimikas has certainly done his chances of regular minutes no harm, particularly after having netted his first Liverpool goal.

“I think one of my dreams came true – to score for this club, with this jersey,” he added. “Today also my brother’s baby has been born, so I am more than happy with the goal and the baby!

“It’s always good when we travel abroad to see all the Liverpool fans around the world singing for our team. We are more than happy and we just thank them a lot.”
