Liverpool kicked off their season in ideal fashion as they made it past Ipswich Town 2-0 at Portman Road.
Mohamed Salah impressed in the Liverpool win, with the Egyptian winger making it two after Diogo Jota’s opener.
Trent Alexander-Arnold also shone for Liverpool, who were forced to work hard for the win by the Tractor Boys.
But the Reds attackers eventually overcame the resilient Ipswich defence, with Jota and Salah netting midway through the second half.
The new Liverpool manager got a good glimpse of his star men, while he also took the chance to rest players after the hard work was complete.
Andy Robertson issues injury update at Liverpool
Slot withdrew four players in total during the match, with Jota, Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson all coming off late on after Jarell Quansah’s half-time departure.
It was a welcome return for Robertson more than most, with the Scottish left-back having been heavily impacted by injury in recent months.

“I felt really good, all things considered,” said Robertson, as quoted by the Liverpool website. “I was playing in pain from March onwards and obviously it was a really important time for the club and then a really important time for my country.
“I hoped that the three weeks off would have settled things down but it didn’t and I needed a wee bit longer. So I managed to get my fitness up to a really good level in terms of not being with the team, which was hugely frustrating.
“But I made sure I was in America, in every team meeting going, asking the coaches questions, things like that, and trying to learn even when I could not be on the pitch. I knew that would put me in the best possible shape when I was on the pitch.”

Robertson was limited to just 23 league games and 30 games in total in Jurgen Klopp’s final season at Anfield.
A serious shoulder injury and ankle issues forced him onto the sidelines, in what was a huge blow for Klopp and Liverpool.

But he managed to recover and lead Scotland at Euro 2024, before linking up with the Reds on their pre-season tour of the USA.
A first appearance of the summer came in the behind-closed-doors friendly against Las Palmas, with Robertson understandably still learning how his new boss wants to run things.
“There’s still lots to learn for all of us – it’s a completely new way of playing and new philosophy and everything,” added Robertson. “It will take a bit of time, of course it will.
“Obviously coming off towards the end, I started to get a little bit tired, which is normal, but I felt good, I feel good. I am pain-free for the first time in five months, which is always positive, so long may it continue.”
