Liverpool have left themselves with a lot of work to do as the transfer window ticks towards its deadline.
The Reds are the only club in Europe’s top seven leagues who have failed to do any business at all since the end of last season.
Although Arne Slot has inherited a Liverpool squad which is slightly on the large side and also packed with quality, that isn’t good enough in the eyes of many.
There is still time for Liverpool to rectify that, though, with sporting director Richard Hughes set for a busy end to the summer.
Now, with just nine days left to go, Hughes and Slot look to have positioned themselves to be in with a chance of making a big, statement signing late on.

Liverpool set for transfer windfall
The way Liverpool like to do things in the transfer market does frustrate many within the fanbase.
FSG run things sustainably in the sense that they don’t like to pay over the odds for players and will spend only what they earn.
While this is obviously a good thing, it does often mean that Liverpool lag behind their rivals when it comes to activity in the market.
In the past, the Reds have often relied upon big sales to allow them to then reinvest that money back into improving the squad.

If we assume that this year is no different, then Liverpool currently have no excuse not to go big in the final week of the window.
The Reds have already sold Fabio Carvalho to the tune of £27.5m this summer. Some of that will go to Fulham, but it’s still a whopping fee for a player who cost less than a third of that.
Now, a report from De Telegraaf claims that Liverpool are set to sell Sepp van den Berg for £25m. Those two fees alone should mean that Slot and Hughes’ kitty is sufficiently boosted.
If that weren’t enough, there have been suggestions that Liverpool could sell four more players. If Joe Gomez leaves, then the Reds are likely looking at a £100m+ summer in terms of sales.
No excuses for Liverpool
According to football finance expert Adam Williams, Liverpool could outspend virtually every team in the Premier League this summer.
The Reds have absolutely no issues relating to PSR, FFP, or any other acronyms you can possibly think of.
As a result of that – and the money now hitting the coffers from completed and imminent sales – Liverpool have no excuse not to have one last, big go in the summer of 2024.
A new midfielder, another centre-half and a top attacker could all be necessary additions for Liverpool in between now and August the 30th.
If they sit on all of this and do nothing with it, then fans will have very good reason to be angry and disappointed. Go on, Liverpool, spend a little.
