Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister knows what it takes to impress both Arne Slot and Jurgen Klopp.

Mac Allister joined Liverpool from Premier League rivals Brighton last summer, and immediately slotted into Klopp’s midfield.

Slot singled out Mac Allister when he welcomed his full squad back for pre-season, with the Argentine returning after winning Copa America.

Mac Allister impressed against Sevilla in the first pre-season match at Anfield, with the midfielder then handed a start in the Premier League opener against Ipswich.

He played the entire 90 minutes in the 2-0 win at Portman Road, and is now closing in on 50 Liverpool appearances.

Reds fans got a great insight into how their new manager wants to approach matches this season, and they will be happy with the results so far.

It is just one game into the new season, but it was important to get off to a winning start, with Mac Allister now revealing what he has found different between working under Slot and Klopp.

“I think this manager asks more to stay in the position, and that’s maybe like a different structure,” Mac Allister told Viaplay. “But the principles are the same.

“We know that defensively we have to run, we have to give our 100 per cent, the last two steps are so important and that can make the difference. There are a couple of changes, not much, but I think Arne can help us to be a better team.”

Will Arne Slot be a success at Liverpool?

It is, of course, far too early to make any real judgement on Slot at Liverpool, with the manager having only taken charge of one competitive game.

But he did enjoy an unbeaten pre-season, with his training ground efforts already paying dividends in matches.

Slot may, however, still be frustrating many supporters with his lack of signings, with the Reds yet to buy any players this summer.

After beating Ipswich 2-0, many fans may be happy with the current group, but things will only get more difficult as the season goes on.

With Liverpool returning to the Champions League, Slot may be left with no option but to bolster his squad, particularly with injuries set to play usual their part.
