£25m Liverpool player would ‘love’ to leave Anfield in the next two weeks

Liverpool have plenty to sort out as we prepare to enter the final two weeks of the transfer window.

The Reds chose to stay out of the summer market right up until August this year, meaning all of their business has had to be squeezed into a month.

There has been a little bit of movement, with Fabio Carvalho joining Brentford, but there are still a number of players in the Liverpool squad who are in need of being moved on.

Incomings are obviously the more exciting topic for Liverpool fans, but with FSG’s model of sustainable spending, perhaps sales will need to be authorised first.

Bearing that in mind, there still looks to be a possibility that Arne Slot could boost his transfer kitty quite considerably over the next two weeks.

Caoimhin Kelleher still keen on Liverpool exit

Although fans were disappointed to see a move for Martin Zubimendi fall by the wayside, Liverpool do look close to making their first signing of the summer.

The Reds are in talks to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia. With Slot already having two senior goalkeepers – and a very good third option in Vitezslav Jaros – it is an intriguing move.

So far, the reporting on the Mamardashvili deal is that the Georgian would be loaned out for a year or maybe even two by Liverpool after signing.

However, according to journalist David Lynch, it sounds like a possibility that Mamardashvili could in fact be the Reds’ back-up for a year.

That’s because while speaking on his YouTube channel, Lynch says that Caoimhin Kelleher is still very much wanting to leave Liverpool before September.

“Kelleher remains quite keen to leave Liverpool this summer,” says the reporter. “His idea coming into the summer was to move on and play first-team football elsewhere and that is still the plan even with these few days left in the window. If he can make that move then he’d love to.

“The likelihood of him moving on, we haven’t got very long left in the transfer window now, so if he’s going to make that move then it has to start moving soon.

“Liverpool aren’t going to budge on the price-tag. That is going to between 20 and 25 million or in that region considering what other goalkeepers have moved for. So, we really do just have to wait and see if anyone’s going to meet that.

“It’s going to be an interesting few days in terms of that one. For now we haven’t had any strong interest and Liverpool haven’t received any bids. So, as things stand Kelleher is going to be Liverpool’s second choice next season.”

Liverpool still planning with Kelleher on board

Kelleher’s situation has been a strange one over the past year or so. It had initially looked possible that the Irishman would leave Anfield last summer.

However, Kelleher ended up staying put and comfortably having his best and most influential season with Liverpool.

12 months on, and it had felt virtually certain that the 25-year-old would be going off and securing first-team football somewhere else.

But it had been reported that Liverpool are planning ahead with Kelleher, so it does still feel unlikely to us that he’ll leave.

Nevertheless, if Mamardashvili does join, then the option does open up to have the 23-year-old immediately step into Caoimhin’s shoes. There’s an interesting two weeks ahead, that’s for sure.
