Liverpool look set to shift their sights in the transfer window after missing out on Martin Zubimendi.
The Reds had been pushing to sign Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, but the midfielder ultimately opted to stay with his hometown club.
The rejection has caused uproar amongst the Liverpool fanbase and with the Reds insisting that Zubimendi gave them a yes initially, it has come as a huge blow to their transfer ambitions.
Nevertheless, the window is still open and it looks as though Liverpool are in talks to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia.
As well as the goalkeeper, there remains a chance that the Reds will look to target a new defender for Arne Slot over the next two weeks.

Liverpool hold interest in Alessandro Bastoni
It had initially been expected that a new centre-back would be top of Liverpool’s wish list this summer.
However, as Sepp van den Berg impressed Slot in pre-season, the need for the Reds to make another signing has appeared to lessen.
Nevertheless, it still looks possible that Van den Berg could leave Liverpool over the next couple of weeks. If the Dutchman does go, Slot might feel he needs another defender to come in.
As a result, links to players that would bolster the back line continue to surface. The latest is for Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni.
Interestingly, when asked about Liverpool’s potential interest in Bastoni on Anfield Agenda, journalist David Lynch admitted that he has been told that the 25-year-old is someone on the Reds’ radar.

However, Lynch goes on to say that he feels a concrete move for Bastoni is ‘very hard to see’ this summer.
“I’ve kind of heard that rumour from a source I do put a lot of stock in, someone who knows his stuff” says the reporter. “Maybe not strong enough for me to write it but there is at least a little bit of interest from Liverpool’s side.
“But the profile he is, I find it very, very hard to believe he’s a target in this window just because of how well stocked Liverpool are and how much quality they have in those centre-half positions,” Lynch adds.
“Yes, you could say they need one more for depth, but I don’t think it’ll be someone of Bastoni’s profile who would be coming in to compete with what else they’ve got in that position. For me, very hard to see.”
No chance for Liverpool and Bastoni
It would be a huge surprise at this stage if Liverpool make any kind of push to sign Bastoni from Inter.
You can understand why he would be on their shortlist. New Arsenal signing Riccardo Calafiori has called Bastoni ‘devastating‘ as a defender while Italy legend Leonardo Bonucci has been impressed by him, too.
“If I have to choose a young defender who impressed me, I’d say Bastoni,” Bonucci said earlier this summer.
However, Inter are not known for flogging their top players. Big Italian sides in general rarely sell their most important stars and Bastoni is certainly one of those for Inter.
Liverpool may like the Italy international, but that seems highly unlikely to lead to anything.
