Liverpool have so far failed to bring in any new signings this summer, with Arne Slot currently working with what he currently has.

The Reds have impressed in pre-season despite a lack of new signings, with Liverpool finishing off their summer of friendlies with a 4-1 win against Sevilla, with the new Premier League season kicking off on Saturday.

With Liverpool setting a deadline to sign Martin Zubimendi, there has been some movement in regards to new signings being made, though it appears that the Reds might have left it too late to bring in certain targets before this weekend’s trip to Ipswich Town.

And Liverpool seemingly made an ambitious play to sign one target last week.

Liverpool made late move to sign William Pacho

According to Le 10 Sport, Liverpool failed in a last-minute attempt to recruit Eintracht Frankfurt defender William Pacho, who last week ended up signing for PSG despite a late move from the Merseyside giants.

Liverpool had been linked with Pacho this summer, with the defender viewed as a potential long-term replacement for Virgil van Dijk as the Reds look to bring in a centre-back this summer.

Hailed by Frankfurt manager Toppmoller as a ‘world-class’ defender via Goal, the 22-year-old Ecuador international had all the skills needed to become a real hit at Liverpool had the Reds been quicker off their mark to sign the youngster.

However, as we know, it was PSG who won the race for Pacho, and Liverpool should have learnt their lesson in this failed transfer race when it comes to how the Reds should have handled their business this summer.

Liverpool should have got their summer deals done as early as possible

Liverpool can be held accountable for their lack of transfer activity this summer, with the Reds slow off their mark to get going in the market with the failed swoop for Pacho a good summary of what has happened this window.

Had Liverpool started early like most top Premier League teams in getting their summer deals done, the Anfield side could have two or even three new players through the door, with Slot in need of new additions.

However, Liverpool have seemingly left it late to make new additions, and the Reds are now playing catch up with the Premier League season just a few days away from starting.
