A round-up of the latest Liverpool news as a football finance expert reveals the likely impact of signing Martin Zubimendi and Aston Villa consider a transfer from Anfield.
Intermediaries offer Liverpool the chance to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili
Euro 2024 ace Giorgi Mamardashvili may be going to Anfield this summer as Liverpool have been presented the chance to target the Georgia goalkeeper’s transfer. That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who reports that intermediaries presented the Reds with a potential deal.
Mamardashvili’s camp are exploring his options to leave Valencia and are in talks with many clubs, including Liverpool. AFC Bournemouth are also aware of the 23-year-old’s situation in the market. But Los Ches are seeking around €30m (£26m) to let the shot-stopper move on.

Liverpool are still to decide if they will target Mamardashvili’s transfer from Valencia, with a loan move away from Merseyside then likely if the Reds do secure a deal. The Tiflis native is sought-after having shone at Euro 2024 whilst George reached the round of 16 this summer.

Football finance expert gives the green light to Liverpool signing Martin Zubimendi
Liverpool have zero reason why the Reds cannot afford the release clause Real Sociedad are demanding to let Martin Zubimendi leave. That is according to football finance expert Adam Williams, who exclusively tells Rousing The Kop that Liverpool have enough in their account.
Real Sociedad will only agree to let Zubimendi leave the La Liga team if Liverpool or another interested club agrees to pay his £52m release clause in full. It is a large figure, but the Reds are likely to register more than £300m in commercial income alone over the coming season.
The only decision facing Liverpool over Zubimendi’s transfer is whether or not FSG is willing to let Arne Slot invest £52m at once and on one player. But Williams predicts a move will go through and that the Euro 2024 winner will not be the last fresh face that arrives at Anfield.

Aston Villa are interested in Joe Gomez’s transfer from Liverpool
Aston Villa have identified Liverpool centre-back Joe Gomez as one possible replacement for Diego Carlos. That is according to Matt Law, with the Telegraph journalist reporting that Villa Park chiefs have eyes on Gomez’s status, as well as that of Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah.
PSV Eindhoven right-back Lutsharel Geertruida is another star under consideration at Aston Villa as doubts surround Carlos’ future in Birmingham. Signing the Dutchman or Gomez will deliver Villans boss Unai Emery a versatile defender able to play centrally and on the wings.
Gomez gained most of his minutes during Jurgen Klopp’s final season at Anfield by stepping in as an emergency full-back last term. The 27-year-old earned 15 of his 32 appearances in the Premier League as a left-back plus 14 as a right-back compared to just two in the centre.
