A round-up of the latest Liverpool news as Danny Murphy urges Arne Slot to hijack a Newcastle United transfer and Maximilian Beier sets his stance on moving to Anfield.
Joel Matip rejects joining Everton or Fulham following his Liverpool release
Free agent Joel Matip has rejected a transfer to Everton or Fulham after being released from Liverpool this summer. That is according to Kicker, which reports that the 32-year-old has no interest in remaining in the Premier League after concluding his eight-year jaunt at the Reds.
The Toffees and Cottagers hoped to tempt Matip to stay in England as they strive to add new ideas to their backlines. But the Cameroonian did not look kindly on their approaches whilst weighing up multiple alternatives. Bayer Leverkusen are watching Matip’s availability closely.

Xabi Alonso sees Matip as a potential replacement for Jonathan Tah with Die Werkself’s star enforcer courted by Bayern Munich. Matip departed Liverpool after winning Premier League and Champions League honours having only featured in 10 top-flight games during 2023/24.

Danny Murphy tells Liverpool to hijack Marc Guehi’s transfer to Newcastle
Reds hero Danny Murphy has urged Liverpool to hijack Newcastle United’s attempts to land the transfer of Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace. The Magpies are on the verge of welcoming him to St James’ Park after stealing a march on the race to secure the England international.
Murphy believes Guehi would be a great addition to the first-team for Liverpool as Arne Slot needs further defensive options. The Reds said farewell to Joel Matip this June and may also sell Joe Gomez, which will leave Jarell Quansah to cover Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.
But Newcastle are running clear to sign Guehi according to Jim White, who Murphy has told that Liverpool should start the transfer tussle. The 24-year-old was a rock at the back during Euro 2024 with the Three Lions and served as Crystal Palace’s vice-captain often last term.
“If Liverpool want to be winning Champions Leagues and Premier Leagues again, I think they might come in for Guehi,” Murphy responded after White’s transfer update on talkSPORT.

Liverpool failed to convince Maximilian Beier to reject a transfer to Borussia Dortmund
TSG Hoffenheim striker Maximilian Beier is insistent on joining Borussia Dortmund, despite recent talks with Liverpool over a potential transfer. The Reds have never given up hope of convincing the 21-year-old to move to Anfield, but his heart is set on the Westfalenstadion.
That is according to Florian Plettenberg, who reports Liverpool contacted Beier over recent days to test the waters again. But a transfer to BVB is the only move the German has on his mind as talks continue regarding his personal terms before Dortmund speak to Hoffenheim.
Liverpool were desperate to change Beier’s mind after he offered 16 goals in 33 Bundesliga games last season. The attacker also laid on three assists to see Beier make his senior debut for Germany this June. He also appeared once during Euro 2024 as a backup striker option.
