Liverpool and Newcastle United have been involved in a major transfer saga over the summer window.
Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon wants to join Liverpool, but so far the England attacker has remained at St James’ Park.
Richard Hughes has two key elements for transfers, in what is the sporting director’s first chance to buy players at Liverpool.
That is the same for Arne Slot, who may quickly strengthen his options ahead of the new season getting underway.
Much of the transfer talk has focused on a new midfielder, although Liverpool could also target a new centre-back.

Danny Murphy tips Liverpool to make move for Marc Guehi
And former Reds ace Danny Murphy has now discussed the latter position, mooting a potential Anfield move for Marc Guehi.
Speaking on talkSPORT, host Jim White said Newcastle are leading the chase for the Crystal Palace defender, with Murphy full of praise for the England star.
“I spoke about him long before he played in the Euros,” said Murphy. “He’s a terrific player, and just confirmed that playing under bigger pressure in the tournament. He’s calm, quick, a good footballer, two footed.”
Murphy then tipped Liverpool to make their move, saying: “I wouldn’t be surprised if they nick on this deal for Guehi either.
“[Joel] Matip’s gone, [Joe] Gomez is looking like he wants to leave to get regular football. And that only leaves three centre halves with [Ibrahima] Konate, [Virgil] Van Dijk and [Jarell] Quansah.
“If Liverpool want to be winning Champions Leagues and Premier Leagues again, I think they might come in for Guehi.”
Will Liverpool spend £60million on Marc Guehi?
It remains to be seen what will happen with Guehi in the coming weeks and days, but he would certainly be a great addition at Anfield.
Slot doesn’t have a lot of options in that area, with the Eagles ace an improvement on the current choices to partner Van Dijk.

Guehi would cost £60million, with plenty of uncertainty over whether the powers that be at Anfield would be willing to spend such a significant fee this summer.
Simon Jordan makes Newcastle and Liverpool claim
White agreed that a move for Guehi certainly makes sense, with former Palace owner Simon Jordan then weighing in on the transfer saga.
“If you’re Palace, the more competitive tension you’ve got, the more revenue you get from the deal,” said Jordan.

“As a Palace fan, irrespective of being a former owner, I couldn’t care less where he goes, as long as it’s not Brighton of course, as long as I get the maximum amount of economic return from it.
“Because if the player wants to go, and I’m commercially obligated to let him go through some mechanism of understanding, whoever it is, if you’re going to if you’re going to choose between Liverpool and Newcastle, with due respect to Newcastle, you’re going to choose Liverpool.”
