Liverpool are finally looking like making their first signing under Arne Slot after a very quiet transfer window so far.

Martin Zubimendi is wanted by Liverpool, with the Merseyside club exploring a deal for the Real Sociedad midfielder.

The new Liverpool manager is seemingly working hard with the powers that be at Anfield in order to get a deal over the line.

Fortunately, every Liverpool player has confidence under Slot, with the Dutchman enjoying a strong start to life at his new club so far.

The Reds are now back on Merseyside after a very successful pre-season tour of the USA, where many players got valuable minutes.

Paul Scholes says Liverpool need to make two signings

But former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes believes that two areas still need to be improved to take the side to the next level.

“I think Liverpool are alright,” Scholes said on The Overlap. “I don’t think Liverpool are far off.

“Okay, the manager is a bit different from Jurgen Klopp but they were up there for quite a bit of last season and they just fell away the last few games.

“I’d say a holding midfield player away from being a really good team and possibly a centre-back.”

Can Liverpool get Martin Zubimendi over the line?

Securing the services of Zubimendi would be a huge scalp for Slot and the new recruitment team in place at Anfield.

He would certainly solve the midfield issue, and could allow the likes of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai to take their games to the next level.

Liverpool lost Thiago Alcantara earlier this summer, while many fans may not convinced about Wataru Endo.

The latter was seemingly a short-term fix from Klopp, and while he doesn’t need to be moved on this summer, a more reliable replacement should be brought in.

Joel Matip meanwhile left alongside Thiago, meaning Slot could also be targeting a new centre-back this summer.
