Liverpool told they’ve just let an ‘extremely talented’ young player leave the club on-loan

Liverpool have seen a number of young players impress during pre-season so far.

It has been a stellar year or so for the Reds at youth level, with so many youngsters making it through to the first-team.

The standouts have been Jarell Quansah and Conor Bradley who have made the breakthrough from academy hopefuls to fully-fledged members of the Liverpool squad.

But Quansah and Bradley are far from being the only talented prospects on Liverpool’s books.

Trey Nyoni was so impressive out in the USA, for example, while there has been strong interest from high-level clubs in the likes of Bobby Clark and Tyler Morton.

Luke Chambers hailed ahead of Wigan loan

It remains to be seen whether Clark, Morton and all the other young players attracting interest remain in Arne Slot’s plans for the new campaign.

If they do not – and there’s no shame in that scenario – then they will either be sold or, more likely, loaned out.

So far, Liverpool have completed only two loan moves for a couple of highly-rated talents. Ironically, both have been to League One side Wigan Athletic.

Calvin Ramsay joined early in the summer in the hope of reigniting an injury-hit career, while Luke Chambers returned to the Latics after doing well there during the second-half of last season.

While at Wigan, the Liverpool man had a big fan in manager Shaun Maloney. Maloney raved about Chambers and is now clearly delighted to have him back.

Speaking to wiganathletic.com after the announcement of Chambers’ return, the former midfielder said the 20-year-old is an ‘extremely talented’ player.

“We are really pleased that Luke has returned to our Football Club,” says Maloney. “Luke was outstanding for us last season, and we’ve worked very hard over the summer to bring him back for the upcoming campaign.

“He is an extremely talented player, who already understands the values of our club, and has bought into our project,” he adds. “I am looking forward to working with Luke, and helping him continue to develop.”

What does the future hold for Chambers?

It will be interesting to see how Chambers gets on back at Wigan. The young defender has been in and around the first-team picture back at Anfield for a little while now.

Slot used him while the Reds were out in the US, which suggested that he was keen to get a closer look.

Chambers turned down interest from the Championship to return to where he did so well last season, and hopefully that familiarity with the club can help him to thrive in the third division.

Nevertheless, from what we’ve seen of Chambers, we’re not completely sure he has what it takes to fully break through at Liverpool.

To our mind, Owen Beck is a slightly more capable option and would be the more likely of the two to make it. Let’s see if Luke can prove us wrong, Maloney certainly seems to think there’s a good chance he will!
