Curtis Jones could be delighted with the latest update about England’s next manager

England are still searching for a new manager after Gareth Southgate resigned following the Euro 2024 final.

Southgate relied on Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold in the early stages in Germany, playing the Anfield ace in midfield.

Jones would make a Jurgen Klopp England XI, but the former Liverpool manager is not interested in the vacancy.

Klopp labelled Jones ‘special’, with the German having relied heavily on the academy graduate in his final campaign in charge.

Southgate was also clearly a fan of the midfielder, selecting Jones in his England training camp squad for Euro 2024, although he was eventually cut.

Lee Carsley set to replace Gareth Southgate as England manager

His Liverpool teammate Jarell Quansah suffered the same fate, with Joe Gomez making the final squad alongside Alexander-Arnold.

Jones and Quansah were denied their England debuts with the decision, but the former could now be delighted with the current Three Lions situation.

As reported by BBC Sport, England Under-21s manager Lee Carsley is set to take interim charge of the national team.

The publication noted that the boss is likely to be in the dugout for the Nations League matches against the Republic of Ireland and Finland next month.

Liverpool star Curtis Jones could make England debut soon

And the appointment could spell very good news for Jones, who worked closely with Carsley with England Under-21s.

The midfielder scored five goals from his 20 appearances for the side, saving his best display for the 2023 UEFA European Under-21 Championship final.

Jones scored and was named Player of the Match as England defeated Spain 1-0 in Georgia last summer, with Carsley therefore fully aware of just how talented a player he is.

Jarell Quansah could follow Liverpool teammate Curtis Jones

Carsley would be following in the footsteps of Southgate, Stuart Pearce and Howard Wilkinson if he was to land the senior role, with that trio having all once made the step up from Under-21 manager to England caretaker.

His appointment could also be a boost for Quansah, who like Jones was close to a senior debut earlier this summer, having made four Under-21 appearances thus far.

Alexander-Arnold meanwhile is certain to keep his place in the squad regardless of who is in the dugout, while Gomez is likely to also remain despite not featuring at Euro 2024.
