Phil Thompson says one Liverpool player already looks totally transformed under Arne Slot

Arne Slot has a long to-do list as Liverpool manager as supporters count down the days to the new season.

Slot will be doing his best to ignore all of the noise in the transfer window, with the Liverpool manager yet to make his first signing.

There are only a limited number of players FSG can sign, with the Reds owners carefully planning for a successful Slot era.

Gary McAllister says Liverpool will play more passes in the final third under their new boss, who has gotten off to the best possible start in the dugout.

While the Anfield faithful may be frustrated about the lack of transfer activity, they can have no complaints about results.

Phil Thompson makes Mohamed Salah claim under Arne Slot

It may only be pre-season, but the Merseyside club defeated Real Betis, Arsenal and Manchester United on their USA tour.

And Liverpool legend Phil Thompson has been hugely impressed by Mohamed Salah in particular, but he has issued a warning about the winger.

“He has (looked sharp in pre-season), and it’s fantastic for all Liverpool fans to see Mo with that energy again,” Thompson said on talkSPORT (8.41am, 6 August).

“And I know Jurgen Klopp, people will talk about the spat on the touchline down at West Ham, and maybe that was a little bit Jurgen’s time was coming to an end, but he seems invigorated now. And it’s all wonderful, but he has not signed a contract.

“Trent [Alexander-Arnold] has not signed a contract, Virgil van Dijk has not signed a contract. These are three big players. We can ill afford with our finances to allow them to go for nothing at the end of the season.”

Liverpool have a Mohamed Salah dilemma

Liverpool do have a real dilemma with Salah and indeed his star teammates Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk.

Slot simply cannot afford to lose any of the trio this summer, with all three certain to be key to any success the Reds may have this season.

At the same time, however, losing any or all of them on free deals this time next year would be a huge blow to the club’s finances.

Tying the trio down to new deals as soon as possible is the ideal outcome, but so far there is no signs that any player has committed themselves to the club.

Salah has been Liverpool’s main threat in the final third for several seasons now, with the winger often single handedly winning matches for the Reds.
