Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott is really enjoying his football at this moment in time under new manager Arne Slot.

Slot has relied heavily upon Elliott in Liverpool pre-season so far, with the 21-year-old featuring against both Real Betis and Arsenal.

He started and played 64 minutes in the first game, before starting and playing for 72 minutes versus the Gunners.

And it was in the latter where he particularly shined, with Liverpool fans agreeing over Elliott after his display against Arsenal.

The midfielder grabbed both assists against Mikel Arteta’s men, with Elliott rated 8/10 in the 2-1 win over Arsenal.

“I think so,” said Elliott, as quoted by BBC Sport. “It’s my preferred position but wherever the boss tells me to play, I am comfortable playing anywhere.

“I’ve said many times I just want to go out and play for the team and wear the shirt in any positions, do the job to the best of my ability.

“But if you’re talking about preferred positions, that’s probably my preferred position. I play there with England as well and I am used to it.

“It’s down to me to show them, keep working hard, put in performances in the games and training and see what happens.”

Elliott proved his creative side against the Gunners, having assisted Mohamed Salah’s opener with a superbly timed through ball from his own half.

The midfielder then set up Fabio Carvalho’s goal, with Elliott chipping an expertly weighted pass for his Reds teammate to volley home.

That creativity was also on show under Jurgen Klopp last season, with the 21-year-old registering 11 assists in all competitions.

He now has plans to impress the new man in the dugout, having also netted four goals in the previous campaign.

Discussing whether staying in one position will help his development, Elliott said: “Absolutely, that’s what I need to do. I need to cement my real position that I can keep working on, building and improving.

“As I said, I won’t turn down playing anywhere and I am happy to put on my shirt and play. But that’s the next step, to try and play in one position to physically and mentally work towards it and keep pushing.”
