Liverpool coach John Heitinga impressed by what £34m Reds player did in training before facing Arsenal

Liverpool supporters have had to get used to a lot of change happening at the club this summer.

With Jurgen Klopp going and taking most of his coaching staff with him, there has been a really different feel to the club.

But while swapping Klopp for Arne Slot is obviously the biggest change of all, there has also been some interesting happenings across the backroom team.

Easily the most fascinating of these has been the decision to appoint former Everton defender John Heitinga as one of Slot’s assistants at Anfield.

As an Everton player of more than four years, it has been strange to see Heitinga with a Liver bird on his chest.

Heitinga praises Mohamed Salah training

Liverpool players have been raving about training ever since Slot and his team took charge earlier in July.

The training methods are obviously quite different to those employed by Klopp, Pep Lijnders and Peter Krawietz.

Slot himself has looked very hands-on in all of the photos and videos from the sessions, especially since Liverpool have been out in America.

That continued on Wednesday, with the latest in the Inside Training series showing another glimpse behind the scenes into the Reds preparations for Thursday’s game with Arsenal.

Liverpool will be missing Ibrahima Konate and Ryan Gravenberch for the friendly despite their arrival in the camp this week.

Nevertheless, Slot will still have a strong squad to call upon, including the irrepressible Mohamed Salah. Salah takes training extremely seriously and was spotted impressing Heitinga during the rondos session.

“Well done Mo!” shouts the former Netherlands international after seeing Salah shift the ball from his left to right foot and find a pass between Sepp van den Berg and Gravenberch.

After claiming the match-winning assist for Dominik Szoboszlai last time out against Real Betis, the Egyptian King looks primed for a big role against the Gunners.

Mohamed Salah set for Liverpool swan-song

Salah was not always involved as Liverpool might have liked him to be during the friendly against Betis.

There had been some suggestion that the 32-year-old could be used more centrally this season as Slot tries to get the best out of him.

However, although there are many of the first-team squad still missing and therefore there is difficulty in predicting such things, it doesn’t look like that will happen. Not initially anyway.

It seems likely that Salah will continue where he always has for Liverpool: from the right.

For now, it looks like Salah will leave Liverpool at the end of the season. We think it’s fitting if he does so after doing what he always has. Before then, though, the £34m man is looking in great shape.
