Liverpool sources have reportedly clarified recent rumours that the Reds have made an approach to sign a £86m-rated attacker.
The Anfield side have been linked with a number of forwards this summer, with Liverpool chasing Hoffenheim striker Maximilian Beier, as Arne Slot looks to add one more option to his attacking ranks for the new season.
With Liverpool also told by Darragh MacAnthony to worry about Mohamed Salah’s decline in form, there’s a real chance that the Merseyside giants could move for a new forward this summer to future-proof their options.
And clarification has now seemingly been made on Liverpool’s interest in one attacking target.

Liverpool not in contact to sign Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres
According to FootballTransfers, Liverpool sources have denied making an approach for Viktor Gyokeres, who last year with Sporting Lisbon was one of the best attackers in Europe with 43 goals and 15 assists in all competitions.
With Gyokeres appreciated by Liverpool, the £86m-rated attacker could have been an option for Slot this summer given just how productive the former Coventry City superstar has been in the last 12 months in Portugal.
However, after this latest update, a move for Gyokeres could be off the table completely for Liverpool, with Darwin Nunez likely to lead the line for a third season for the Reds with Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota chipping in.
Indeed, given how much Sporting want for Gyokeres and that Liverpool need a wide-attacker more than a centre-forward, it’s perhaps no real surprise that the Reds have now made a move for the Swedish international, though a return to the Premier League could still be on.

Reds right to not move for Gyokeres this summer
Gyokeres is arguably the hottest property in football this summer after such an insane year with Sporting, yet for Liverpool, not moving for the striker is the right thing to do in this window.
Although Nunez’s form can be inconsistent, the Uruguay international deserves another crack at leading the line for Liverpool, especially under a new manager like Slot next season.
Moreover, at £85m, Liverpool can’t justify spending so much for a striker when work needs to be done elsewhere in the squad, namely in central defence and in the midfielder for the new season.
