Liverpool told they should be ‘worried’ about player who’s really starting to decline

There are plenty of question marks lingering over the new season for Liverpool supporters.

The Reds had a decent final campaign under Jurgen Klopp, but really started to tail off towards the end.

Their poor form led to suggestions that a number of the Liverpool squad are either past their best or are simply not quite good enough.

But with Arne Slot now coming in, it feels like a fresh start has dawned for just about every player at Liverpool.

Unfortunately, though, the Reds have now been told that one player could be in for a tricky season at Anfield.

Liverpool told of Mohamed Salah worry

Part of the reason Klopp saw it as being the right time to leave Liverpool was because of the healthy state of the squad.

Having refreshed the midfield last summer and then promoted a number of promising academy stars, the German brought the average age of the group down massively.

However, there are still a couple of veterans sprinkled throughout playing staff.

One of these is Mohamed Salah, who until last season still looked as spritely as he did when joining in 2017.

But 2023/24 was a frustrating campaign for Salah. The Egyptian dealt with a lengthy injury absence for the first time in his career.

And speaking on TalkSPORT, Peterborough United chairman and Liverpool fan Darragh MacAnthony claimed that it could be another tough year ahead for Salah.

“I’m worried about Salah,” says Mac Anthony. “I think he was great at the start of the season.

“Then with age his output in the second half of the season was waning and it’s not going to be any better this season. That’s just my opinion.”

Liverpool look for Mohamed Salah solution

Some Liverpool supporters may dismiss MacAnthony’s words here, but we’d argue that there is a valid discussion to be had over Salah.

It now looks likely that this will indeed be Mo’s final season at Liverpool. As a result, the Reds should try and get as much out of him as possible.

It remains to be seen exactly how Slot plans on using the 32-year-old. But it might be an idea to slightly tweak his position in order to get Salah closer to the goal.

If he’s able to stay fit, you wouldn’t put it past Mo to score 30 or more goals yet again for Liverpool. That could be the difference between winning a trophy and not for the Reds.

But if he struggles to put the difficulties of the end of last season behind him, then Slot does have other, younger options who are all itching to play. Let’s hope MacAnthony is wrong and we see the Salah of old roar out of the blocks.
