Sepp van den Berg shares talk with Slot amid ongoing transfer speculation

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Sepp van den Berg revealed that he and Slot have spoken about the plan for his future this summer, with the defender linked with a £20m move away from Anfield having impressed last year on loan.

With Liverpool losing Joel Matip at the end of last season, Van den Berg could be viewed by Slot as a readymade replacement for the Cameroonian defender, especially with the Dutch youngster as highly rated as he is.

And Van den Berg has suggested that he will be given a chance this pre-season to impress Slot, who could be keen to give the 22-year-old a role in the senior team after a strong year out on loan in the Bundesliga last season.

Van den Berg said when asked what Slot told him amid ongoing transfer speculation: “I spoke with [Slot] on my first day. He said to me that I have to show myself in pre-season. I had my own visions, I want to play.”

Van den Berg could save Liverpool millions this summer

Van den Berg has been around at Liverpool for quite some time, with the defender yet to have a real shot at playing with the senior team despite years of promise and numerous loan spells.

Yet with the centre-back enjoying his best year yet away from Anfield and a spot now open in the defence, Van den Berg could save Liverpool millions if the youngster can impress Slot this summer.

As we know, Van den Berg has more than deserved a shot at playing for Liverpool after so many years with the club and a good season away with FSV Mainz, and good performances this summer could help Liverpool greatly in the transfer market in finding a new defender.
