Liverpool remain yet to make a signing during this year’s summer transfer window.
The Reds would ordinarily have brought a new player or two through the door by this stage of the off-season.
However, with a new scenario developing at Anfield this year, things have been different. Liverpool have allowed Arne Slot to settle into life at the club without disrupting his plans with new signings.
With August now on the horizon though, that could soon change. On Monday, reports from Japan claimed that Liverpool are on the verge of signing Takefusa Kubo from Real Sociedad.
Kubo would fit the need for an understudy to Mohamed Salah in the Liverpool squad and has a manageable release clause. It feasibly looks like a deal the Reds could be in for.

Liverpool Takefusa Kubo links addressed
In terms of wide attacking players, Kubo is not the most prolific goal scorer or assister. However, the 23-year-old is tricky, quick and very technically gifted.
The Reds are never really going to find a direct replacement for Salah. The Egyptian is a Liverpool legend and his output from wide on the right is unlikely to ever be matched.
Nevertheless, Kubo’s age, potential price-tag and profile all fit with what FSG tend to go for in the market.
With Liverpool fans clamouring for any kind of transfer news in a dry summer for excitement, they’ll be keen to have the links from Japan ratified by European journalists.

Unfortunately, though, Spanish journalist Matteo Moretto has taken to Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing to pour a little cold water on the chances of Kubo joining the Reds.
“Real Sociedad star Takefusa Kubo was linked with Liverpool during the winter transfer window, and this week fresh reports have emerged about Liverpool potentially activating his €60m release clause,” says Moretto.
“My information on this is that there is nothing concrete in the works, and I’m not aware of any talks with him over a move either.
“It’s an old topic that has come up again, and from what I’ve been told, in recent hours, and in recent days, we should not expect anything imminent for Kubo,” adds the reporter.
Fabrizio Romano confirms Liverpool’s Kubo stance
As well as Moretto, the transfer guru himself – Fabrizio Romano – has also commented on the claims that Kubo could be about to join Liverpool.
Speaking on his YouTube channel on Monday evening, Romano also suggested that there is nothing concrete in the Japanese attacker moving to Anfield.
“I respect information from all the colleagues but what I’m told today is that Liverpool at this stage are not negotiating with Real Sociedad or with the agents of Kubo,” says the reporter. “At the moment there is no deal done, no deal close and no deal advanced.
“It’s not something really concrete or advanced between the clubs,” adds Romano. “In case something changes I will let you know. Saying that Kubo is close to Liverpool is something I don’t have confirmed.”
With Liverpool looking likely to wait until they return from their tour of the USA to do any business, this could still be one in the works. But for now, it’s time to take the excitement down a notch.
