Ongoing injury woes blighted Dominik Szoboszlai at Euro 2024
Hungarian FA president Sandor Csanyi claims Dominik Szoboszlai struggled for form during Euro 2024 as the Liverpool midfielder is still dealing with an injury. The 23-year-old featured for all 270 minutes that Hungary played in Germany as their captain and left with one assist.
But Szoboszlai struggled to pull Hungary’s strings as they bowed out of Group A in third spot with three points. His assist was not enough to beat Switzerland as the Magyars fell to a 3-1 defeat. Germany also beat Hungary 2-0 before Szoboszlai’s side beat Scotland for a 1-0 win.
It followed a tough time at Anfield for the 45-cap maestro after Szoboszlai finished his debut season at Liverpool on three goals and two assists in 33 Premier League games. He offered just one goal in 2024, as well, after scoring against Chelsea in January amid his injury woes.
Szoboszlai returned from his initial hamstring injury to score against Chelsea but suffered an aggravation of the issue straight away. Csanyi also believes the Szekesfehervar native is still feeling the effects of that problem and it ensured he struggled to perform in Germany, too.
Csanyi explained to Nemzeti Sport: “He was not in top form at the European Championship, which is also due to the fact that he has not been 100 per cent since his winter injury and in the tournament. He has been dealing with a minor injury for a long time.”

Arne Slot decides what position Trent Alexander-Arnold will play for Liverpool
New Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has decided on the position Trent Alexander-Arnold will play under the Dutchman. That is according to Ben Jacobs, who reports that Slot will tell the 25-year-old his intentions when the pair sit down for face-to-face talks in the coming weeks.
Slot is eager to speak directly with Alexander-Arnold upon the player’s return to Merseyside. The right-back, who Jurgen Klopp and Gareth Southgate occasionally used as a midfielder, is not set to report for pre-season training until August as England made the Euro 2024 final.
Their meeting will afford Slot the chance to explain his plans to Alexander-Arnold, whom the new Liverpool head coach wants to keep in the leadership team. Klopp named the academy graduate as the Reds’ vice-captain last summer ahead of what was his last season in charge.

Liverpool transfer news as Arne Slot targets Celtic star Matt O’Riley
Liverpool have joined Atalanta BC in the race to sign Matt O’Riley after receiving news about his transfer from Celtic. That is according to Rudy Galetti, who reports that the Reds are now well-informed on his availability after La Dea emerged as the first club to formally eye a deal.
Atalanta moved early to try and sign O’Riley with several clubs around Europe considering a transfer. Atletico Madrid and Liverpool have now emerged as their two most likely rivals for a deal, too, after seeking further news regarding the likelihood that Celtic permits a transfer.
O’Riley enjoyed a phenomenal season from the heart of Celtic’s midfield last term to lift his third-straight Premiership title. The 23-year-old bagged 13 goals and 11 assists, and offered six goals and seven assists across the cup competitions for a total of 37 goal involvements.
