Liverpool are yet to make any concrete decisions in the summer transfer market this year.
The Reds could arguably do with one or two new additions but have so far chosen to keep their chequebook in the pocket.
There are seemingly a couple of reasons for this. First of all, the summer international tournaments have made it difficult for any business to get done at Anfield or anywhere else.
Secondly, Liverpool are still getting used to having Arne Slot as their new head coach. There was also a changing of the guard at sporting director level which has no doubt had an impact.
Thirdly, the Liverpool owners will not move to sign a player just for the sake of it. If the ‘right’ player is not available, they are always happy to go with what they have.

Nico Williams says a big ‘no’ to Liverpool
Part of reason number three here is not always simply about the quality of a player. There are so many factors which go into signing someone for a well run football club.
One of the most important pieces of the puzzle is whether the player in question even wants to join.
Someone can be the exact right fit for the Liverpool squad at that exact time, but if they don’t want to know, then there’s no use going further.
This was part of the reason why Liverpool didn’t sign Leny Yoro recently. They knew that his mind was elsewhere.
The same also appears to be true for another of the Reds’ potential targets this summer. Liverpool have been linked with Nico Williams who has shown himself to be a world class talent at Euro 2024.

Some supporters may be wondering why Liverpool don’t simply pay Williams’ relatively low release clause and have done with it. According to journalist Graeme Bailey, though, the 22-year-old would not join the Reds even if they did.
“It’s nothing to do with the wages, he doesn’t want to come to England,” Bailey exclusively tells Rousing The Kop. “The only place he wants to go is Barcelona, it’s as simple as that.
“It’s nothing to do with Liverpool, nothing to do with any of the clubs that want him, he just doesn’t want to come to England,” adds the reporter. “He wants to play for Barcelona.
“I think Liverpool could offer him £500k-per-week, any Premier League could and he wouldn’t sign. It has nothing to do with money for him.”
Liverpool target three more attackers
Owing to his unwillingness to join anyone but Barcelona this summer, Williams clearly is not the ‘right’ player for Liverpool.
That’s a shame, as owing to his football talents you’d say that Williams very much looks like a Liverpool player. Tailor made, even.
Nevertheless, there are plenty more fish in the sea. And according to reports on Saturday, Liverpool are casting their net wide.
It has been claimed simultaneously that Liverpool are readying a bid for Takefusa Kubo, that the Reds have ‘strong’ interest in Dani Olmo and even that a bid has been accepted for Baris Alper Yilmaz.
Not all three can be true, of course, perhaps none of them have any legs. But for now, of these four attackers, it looks like we can almost certainly rule out Williams at least.
