£25m player spotted in England after claims Liverpool have made a bid for him

The clock is starting to tick on Liverpool’s chances of making any new signings this summer.

The Reds have so far kept out of the market, choosing instead to let Arne Slot run the rule over his current players.

With Liverpool already boasting a relatively large first-team squad, it would not be a huge surprise to see them go with what they have for the new season.

However, in order to give the new head coach the best chance possible of success at Anfield, you’d imagine that one or two additions might still be made.

With that in mind, it looks like Liverpool are starting to get a little more serious on bringing a new forward to the club.

Liverpool make offer for Baris Alper Yilmaz

Saturday has brought some interesting rumours with regard to a new forward for Liverpool.

The Reds already have some interesting options in the squad and have the likes of Jayden Danns coming through from the academy.

But with Danns now injured, perhaps Slot has felt as though he’d like to bring in one more ahead of Liverpool’s upcoming tour of the United States.

There have been fresh claims over Liverpool’s interest in Dani Olmo, with the Reds said to be holding a ‘strong’ wish to sign the 26-year-old.

Takefusa Kubo has been linked to Liverpool, too, with suggestions that a bid for Real Sociedad is about to come down the line from Anfield.

And according to Turkish outlet Ajansspor, the Reds are actually one step further ahead regarding their interest in Galatasaray forward Baris Alper Yilmaz.

They claim that Liverpool have already been in contact with Galatasaray and have laid down a bid of £25m.

There is no indication of whether this offer was accepted, but the Reds’ claims were said to have been ‘strengthened’ by Yilmaz sharing a photo of himself wandering the streets of London recently.

Given that Tottenham and West Ham are also said to be hot on the trail of the 24-year-old, we’d suggest that this is perhaps better news for their chances rather than Liverpool’s.

No need for Baris Alper Yilmaz signing

Yilmaz actually looked very impressive for Turkey during Euro 2024. Still only 24, he’d surely be a handy signing for some Premier League teams.

But with Liverpool already having a number of top-class forwards, we think they should only sign another if he truly raises the level.

Virgil van Dijk praised Yilmaz after the Netherlands edged out Turkey in the Euros quarter-finals and there is clearly something there.

However, we just don’t think that is enough to get him a move to Anfield. There are better, more needed players who can be signed instead.

Yilmaz could make us eat our words and we’d be happy to see him join if that’s what ends up happening. But it’s a long way from London to Liverpool.
