Liverpool need to start making some headway in the transfer market if they are to do any business this summer.
The Reds have so far kept away from the window, with full focus on settling Arne Slot into life at the club instead.
However, with their rivals beginning to strengthen, Liverpool now need to think very carefully about what they do next.
Failure to add to the first-team squad could leave the new head coach already playing catch-up before he’s even started.
Thankfully, it sounds like the Liverpool owners are finally about to pull the trigger on a player who would surely cause excitement at Anfield.

Liverpool preparing Takefusa Kubo bid
At the start of the window, it was claimed that Liverpool are looking for a new forward as one of their main priorities.
The Reds already have a number of top quality option up front, as well as some interesting young players coming through the academy. Nevertheless, Slot reportedly wanted one more.
With Mohamed Salah now entering the final year of his contract, the smart thinking would be to bring in a new player who could take over from the Egyptian when he eventually does leave.
Liverpool do not have a natural, left-footed replacement in the first-team right now and with Salah subject to interest from Saudi Arabia again, they need to make a plan for his exit.

There are left-footed, right-sided forwards out there who have shown they could do a job for Liverpool. One possibility is Real Sociedad’s Takefusa Kubo.
And according to Japanese outlet Sponichi Annex, the Reds think Kubo is the ideal replacement for Salah.
As a result, Liverpool are said to be ‘preparing’ on offer of around £55m to sign the 23-year-old this summer. The Reds are also reportedly lining up an eye-watering salary of more than £12.5m per year for Kubo.
Both transfer fee and contract would be a record for a Japanese player in football history.
Takefusa Kubo makes a lot of sense for Liverpool
As Liverpool continue to roll on quietly in the market, it perhaps does not feel like they will move to sign a player like Kubo. Having said that, you could understand why they would want the Japan international.
He is a fast, skilful right winger would could certainly give them something different. Maheta Molango, an executive at his former club Mallorca, even claimed that Kubo can become a ‘football superstar‘ due to his vision and intelligence on the pitch.
At 23 he has plenty of room to improve and even the £55m fee does not look beyond the Reds. In some ways, he’s the archetypal FSG signing.
However, if Liverpool do look to sign Kubo, then there’s surely no chance of them hitting the salary mentioned here. The annual sum would put Kubo on around £240k-per-week. There’s no way. He would instantly be one of the Reds’ very top earners.
If that can be ironed out, though, we see no reason why Kubo should not at least be on Liverpool’s list.
