Cody Gakpo is perhaps the Liverpool player who performed the best at Euro 2024 this summer.
The Reds had ten players head out to Germany to represent their countries and try to be crowned continental champions.
For the most part, things have not gone especially well for those members of the Liverpool squad.
There is still a chance that Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez win the competition with England, although Alexander-Arnold hasn’t been great and Gomez is yet to play a single minute.
The England duo made the final after beating Gakpo, Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch in Wednesday’s semi-final.

Wesley Sneijder urges calm over Cody Gakpo
Wednesday was not Gakpo’s best performance of the tournament. Up until that point though he had comfortably been the Netherlands’ best player.
With just the final to come on Sunday, the 25-year-old is still the joint top scorer. Arne Slot says he has been impressed by Gakpo and he certainly hasn’t been the only one.
In fact, Liverpool’s No.18 has been so good that he has reportedly earned comparisons to legendary winger Arjen Robben back in his homeland.
While Robben was notorious for cutting in off the right onto his left foot, Gakpo has become well known during Euro 2024 for doing the same thing on the opposite side of the pitch.

Though he was often used as a striker by Jurgen Klopp, Gakpo says Klopp was playing him out of position. He prefers to be out on the left.
However, Dutch legend Wesley Sneijder says that there is simply no way the Liverpool forward should be compared to Robben.
“I don’t get it, because they’re two completely different players,” Sneijder says via Dutch outlet Soccer News.
“Why do you have to compare them? It’s a different time. Other things are required. People need to stop comparing,” adds the former midfielder.
Arne Slot set for Cody Gakpo dilemma
After Gakpo’s promising tournament for the Netherlands, Slot really has to decide what he does with the former PSV man next season.
Slot says he knows where Gakpo will play for him but has not yet publicly disclosed the information.
In our opinion, there is no longer room for both Gakpo and Luis Diaz in the same Liverpool squad. One of them has to be sacrificed.
Gakpo has shown over the past few weeks that he can be clinical when he wants to be. However, Diaz has had a good Copa America with Colombia and could yet return to Anfield as a champion.
We don’t envy Slot being the one to make this call. Once the two come back home and pre-season starts to get serious, perhaps we’ll get an indication of where the head coach’s mind is at.
