‘Outstanding’ Real Madrid player could leave this summer with Liverpool weighing up approach

Liverpool are still weighing up the best way to attack the summer transfer window.

The Reds have been well known to move relatively quickly once the market opens at the end of the season.

However, this time around things have been different. With Arne Slot new onboard and with a change in the sporting director too, it has taken a while to get going at Anfield.

With July now in full swing though, Liverpool fans will expect to see one or two additions to the first-team squad.

There could yet be some outgoings as well, which could be the decisive factor in bringing a European champion to the club.

Liverpool weighing up Andriy Lunin move

There are one or two areas of the Liverpool squad which could be added to before the season gets underway.

Having said that, looking at the group, the Reds are very well stocked unless they do see some players leave. Of course, it’s more than possible that some changes are made.

Perhaps the most likely position in which Slot will be forced to sell someone will be in the goalkeeping department.

Caoimhin Kelleher says he wants to be a first choice ‘keeper and as long as Alisson Becker is around that isn’t going to happen.

Alisson has been linked with a move away too, but it looks unlikely that the Brazilian will leave just at the moment.

Nevertheless, Spanish outlet SPORT claim that Liverpool could look to bring in a top level ‘keeper even if Alisson sticks around for the time being.

They report that the Reds are considering a move to sign Real Madrid goalie Andriy Lunin. Lunin has just one year remaining on his contract in Madrid and is reportedly not certain to sign an extension.

If Liverpool sell Kelleher, the Ukrainian goalkeeper is said to be seen as being a good replacement as back-up to Alisson.

Andriy Lunin would be smart business for Liverpool

Although Kelleher has been linked with a transfer this summer, there is still little to suggest that anything is imminent.

The 25-year-old is back in pre-season training at the AXA Training Centre and Liverpool have put a high asking price on Kelleher.

As much as it would be nice to see him spread his wings and be a number one somewhere, the academy graduate is about as good as it gets as a second choice.

In the event that Kelleher does go though, Lunin would be smart business. The Ukraine international surely wouldn’t cost too much with just 12 months on his contract and Lunin has been called ‘outstanding’ by Carlo Ancelotti.

At 25, there’s also plenty of scope for Lunin to progress and take over once Alisson does eventually call it a day.
