Liverpool keeping an eye on £7m Real Madrid player who could ‘surprisingly’ be available

Liverpool do not have a strong record when coming up against Real Madrid in recent years.

The Reds have lost two Champions League finals against Los Blancos since 2018 and have been dumped out of the competition twice more by them besides.

Even off the pitch, Liverpool have been caught out by Madrid. The Spanish giants beat Liverpool to the signing of Jude Bellingham in 2023 and Real pipped the Reds to Aurelien Tchouameni the year before.

If those scarring incidents weren’t enough, Liverpool look set to miss out on Leny Yoro who is favouring a move to the Bernabeu over Anfield.

Nevertheless, the Reds might be about to get some pay back as they monitor a potential outgoing at Madrid.

Liverpool monitoring Andriy Lunin situation

Liverpool have been mentioned in connection to a couple of Real Madrid players already this summer.

Arne Slot could be search of a new attacker and as a result Liverpool have been linked with Rodrygo in what would be an audacious move.

Arda Guler is on Liverpool’s radar, too, and there reportedly remains a possibility that the Reds will keep the teenager in mind for the future.

With two forwards on the shortlist, Liverpool are also said to be looking at the other end of Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.

The Reds may need to bolster their ranks in the goalkeeping department this summer. Adrian has already left, while Caoimhin Kelleher may follow. Both will need replacing.

And speaking exclusively to Rousing The Kop, journalist Graeme Bailey says Liverpool are keeping an eye on Madrid’s Andriy Lunin, who could ‘surprisingly’ become available six years on from joining Real for around £7m.

“Lunin’s future is surprisingly up-in-the-air,” Baileys tells us. “Real believed a deal was just about done weeks ago, but it has gone unsigned and now talks are ongoing. If he doesn’t sign then Real will move him on.

“Liverpool are one of a number of clubs who have been spoken to about him, they have been told about his situation,” adds the reporter.

“They were already aware of the player as he is a very good goalkeeper, and performed brilliantly for Real last season standing in for Courtois.”

What’s going on with Kelleher and Alisson?

Whether Liverpool sign a new goalkeeper or not this summer will likely depend on the outgoings.

Vitezslav Jaros could step up to the first-team squad from the academy, but if one of Kelleher or Alisson leaves, someone will have to come in.

And as Alisson continues to be linked with Al Nassr, Bailey has the latest on both goalkeepers.

“Obviously Liverpool’s goalkeeping situation is intriguing,” he says. “Having lost Adrian, they are due to lose Kelleher but Alisson’s future needs cementing which I am told will be once he returns from pre-season, despite Saudi interest in him.

“I don’t see them allowing him to leave but if Alisson – like Ederson – begins to push for a move, then Arne Slot and Liverpool’s hierarchy do have an issue and someone like Lunin could be a real player of interest.”
