£60m England star decides he would rather join Liverpool than Arsenal this summer

Liverpool are yet to make any moves to add to their squad during the summer transfer market.

The Reds have had plenty to get to grips with since the end of the season, with Arne Slot replacing Jurgen Klopp.

Slot has also brought a whole new coaching team in with him, while there have been fundamental changes in key recruitment positions including sporting director, too.

As a result of this upheaval, as well as the summer international tournaments, it has been all quiet at Anfield.

However, with the new head coach ramping up his pre-season preparations and the Euros and Copa America set to end, things could start moving in the market.

Liverpool hold concrete interest in Eberechi Eze

Liverpool are reportedly keen to sign a forward once the dust starts to settle on the transfer market.

Although Slot already has some strong options within the Liverpool squad, there’s a feeling that the Reds may like to add one more.

As a result, numerous attackers have been put forward as being of interest. Most recently, there have been claims that Liverpool would like to sign Baris Alper Yilmaz of Galatasaray.

There has also been an interesting update on Liverpool’s interest in Dani Olmo as his RB Leipzig release clause nears its end date.

One more player mentioned as a potential Liverpool target has been England and Crystal Palace forward Eberechi Eze.

And according to Football Transfers, the Reds do indeed hold ‘concrete interest’ in the 26-year-old. However, it is claimed that Liverpool will only push forward to sign Eze if they sell Luis Diaz in the meantime.

Arsenal are also said to be keen on the Crystal Palace man and have reportedly been in initial contact with Eze over a transfer. The winger is claimed to be ‘hesitant’ to leave Selhurst Park unless he is guaranteed first-team football, though.

While Eze is said to have reservations over whether this is possible at the Emirates, he reportedly does believe he can get into Liverpool’s team. As a result, the former QPR man is claimed to ‘favour’ a move to the Reds.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are said to be ahead of both teams in the race to sign Eze.

Would Eberechi Eze get in Liverpool’s team?

Although we do like Eze and he has done well for England when given the chance at Euro 2024, we’re still not fully sold on the idea of him at Anfield.

There’s little question that he would be a good option for Slot to have. But would Eze really improve what Liverpool already have?

If Diaz does leave, then the Reds arguably already have his direct replacement within the squad. Cody Gakpo has excelled on the left wing for the Netherlands recently and deserves his chance there.

Should Liverpool bring in an Eze or an Anthony Gordon, then Gakpo would be back to square one again.

Eze reportedly has a £60m release clause in his contract so at least the Reds would know what they’d have to pay to get him. But that’s still a big price to pay for a player who we’re not convinced improves things.
