Liverpool are kicking up their preparations for the new season with training now well underway.

There is plenty of expectation surrounding the club as Arne Slot takes charge of his first pre-season with the Reds.

Just a couple of days in, we’re used to seeing Liverpool players doing plenty of running work at the AXA Training Centre by now.

However, keen to be as hands on as possible, Slot and his coaching team have already got their players working with the ball.

As intriguing as it is to see how young players coming up from the Liverpool academy are coping with the demands, for example, it’s equally interesting to observe how the new head coach and his backroom team are getting on.

Insiders share view of Arne Slot and his coaching team

It’s going to take some getting used to not seeing Jurgen Klopp, Pep Lijnders, Peter Krawietz and the rest out on the training pitch for Liverpool.

Klopp’s coaching team had become synonymous with him across his almost decade at Anfield.

However, Slot has his own reliable right-hand man, and Sipke Hulshoff has already gotten down to work with his boss.

We are yet to see Liverpool’s new goalkeeping coach Fabian Otte, who looks set to arrive in the near future following his work with the USA national team.

Otte won’t be the only new addition in the coming weeks, though. It was reported over the weekend that Liverpool are looking to add two more coaches to Slot’s team.

Since then, it has emerged that Aaron Briggs will join in Vitor Matos’ old ‘Elite performance development’ role, with talks also ongoing over former Everton defender Johnny Heitinga arriving, too.

These look like exciting appointments for Liverpool, and speaking on his YouTube channel on Monday, journalist David Lynch says that the feeling within the club is one of real anticipation.

“I had someone who works at Liverpool saying to me today [Monday] that there’s a real feeling around the place that the staff is getting a little bit younger now that there’s this transition away from Jurgen Klopp and his staff,” says Lynch.

“It feels like there’s a real young, hungry, talented group of coaching staff being put together.

“I think Aaron Briggs is the same; highly rated by anyone you speak to around the club and also around football in general. He really adds to that profile and he’s got a vital role in terms of bringing those academy kids through.”

Who is Aaron Briggs?

Briggs arrives at Liverpool with a big reputation. Despite being just 37, he has already held positions at Monaco, Wolfsburg and Manchester City.

Interestingly, Briggs was the assistant manager to Niko Kovac at Wolfsburg up until March of this year.

He also held a similar position under Kovac at Monaco where he worked as a tactical analyst as well.

Prior to that, Briggs spent almost a decade rising up from U18’s performance analyst to senior first team performance analyst at City.

Although still yet to turn 40, the coach also has stints at Preston and Blackpool on his CV. It sounds like Liverpool are making themselves a really interesting appointment. No wonder there’s excitement.
