£25m ‘key player’ at Euro 2024 is set to be sold after Liverpool show interest

Liverpool have been keeping an eye on a number of interesting players at Euro 2024.

The Reds have yet to make any concrete moves in the transfer market, perhaps largely due to the ongoing tournament.

However, with just four teams now left in the competition, Liverpool are free to start making some moves.

Some potential signings will have to wait. Anthony Gordon remains a target for Liverpool, for example, and is still in Germany with the England squad.

Others have now crashed out, though, leaving Arne Slot with the ability to add them to his first-team squad without interference.

Liverpool target Baris Alper Yilmaz set for move

With Liverpool reportedly on the lookout for both a centre-back and a forward this summer, there’s been lots to keep a watch over.

In terms of a defender, Riccardo Calafiori had looked like a Liverpool target but now seems more likely to join Arsenal.

Forwards are more exciting anyway, and there has been no shortage of those on display, too.

Spain’s Nico Williams has lit up the tournament so far leading to strong links with a move to Anfield. As things stand, Williams joining Liverpool remains a possibility.

Another attacker to have caught the eye has been Turkey’s Baris Alper Yilmaz. Operating on the right-wing for the Turks, Yilmaz gave Virgil van Dijk a game as the Netherlands edged Turkey out on Saturday.

His good performances have led to claims that Liverpool are interested in Yilmaz this summer.

And according to German journalist Dennis Bayer, if the Reds want Yilmaz, then he’s set to be on the market in the coming weeks.

“Understand Baris Alper Yilmaz from Galatasaray is a hot candidate for a summer transfer,” Bayer reports on X.

“Lots of interest from Bundesliga, Serie A and Premier League. Key player for Turkiye during the Euro 2024.”

If Liverpool are looking for a recommendation on Yilmaz, then they needn’t look far. Van Dijk was effusive in his praise of the 24-year-old last weekend.

“Baris Alper Yilmaz was running constantly. He was running elusive. It was difficult for every defender,” the 33-year-old said via Milliyet.

“He made it very hard for us. He couldn’t score a goal though. If we were to describe him in any way, he is a really important player.”

Van Dijk’s input has been sought at Liverpool in the past. Back in 2022, the Reds took Van Dijk’s glowing account of Darwin Nunez into account before signing him from Benfica.

Nunez had given the big Dutchman a tough game in the Champions League which rubberstamped his move to Anfield.

Two years, perhaps Yilmaz should be one to watch in that respect. Milliyet claim that Yilmaz could be available for around £25m and that would like good business.
