Liverpool fans heard from their new sporting director for the first time on Friday as Richard Hughes spoke to the media.
The main focus of everyone connected with the Reds this summer has so far been on seeing what Arne Slot will bring to the club.
However, Slot is far from being the only new arrival at Anfield. Given how much influence he’s likely to have over recruitment, Hughes joining from Bournemouth is huge news, too.
He and the new head coach will work under Michael Edwards, who’s reputation from his previous spell at Liverpool is legendary.
Although they now have a crack team in place then, the Reds have been ultra quiet in the transfer window so far. Fans continue to wait patiently for the Liverpool squad to be bolstered.

Liverpool still alive in Anthony Gordon chase
In reality, it was always likely to be a quiet summer for Liverpool in the transfer market. There is plenty to get sorted away from the squad, with Slot set to announce two more new additions to his coaching team.
As well as all of the new personnel coming in to high up positions though, there has also been the small matter of two international tournaments to deal with.
These competitions always throw a spanner in the works in terms of getting deals over the line and Liverpool may be waiting patiently for the Copa America and Euro 2024 to end next weekend.
In the meantime, links to potential targets continue to be bandied about in the press. One which gathered a great deal of pace last week was the case of Anthony Gordon.

Gordon has reportedly had his head turned by interest from Liverpool who had the chance to exploit Newcastle’s issues with PSR. However, with the Magpies solving their problems in other ways, Gordon stayed put.
That does not feel like the end of the matter, though. And according to The Daily Mail, a line is yet to be drawn.
They claim that with Gordon ‘keen on the move,’ the chances of his arrival at Anfield ‘are not completely dead yet.’
Liverpool themselves are still said to be ‘open’ to the possibility of signing an attacker this summer and have reportedly ‘not ruled out’ bringing a new forward in.
Liverpool lining up 2025 deal for Anthony Gordon
In our opinion, the only way Liverpool sign Gordon this summer now is if Newcastle suddenly decide to drop the price massively.
The only reason they’d do that is if the 23-year-old is adamant that he won’t sign a new contract amid Liverpool’s interest.
Even then, Gordon still has two years left on his deal. Newcastle are under no real pressure to sell him this summer. They’ll more than likely spend the next few months trying to get him to sign an extension.
The former Everton man has been called ‘unbelievable‘ by Toon boss Eddie Howe. Why wouldn’t they try everything to keep him?
However, it’s claimed to be ‘increasingly clear’ that Gordon wants to join Liverpool. As a result, it seems unlikely that he’d commit to another contract at Newcastle.
For that reason, we think Liverpool are plotting to sign Gordon in summer 2025. The groundwork is being laid now, and this link will surely continue to remain live for the next year.
