Liverpool chiefs should be working hard in the off-season to try and bring new players to Anfield this summer.

Manager Arne Slot has already impressed Jamie Carragher in his first press conference at the club, but the Dutchman now needs to make a splash in the transfer market.

He should be backed by FSG, with the Liverpool owners having supported Jurgen Klopp financially during his time at Anfield.

It remains to be seen exactly where Slot will want to improve upon, but one certainty is that new faces are needed in order for the Reds to successfully compete on all fronts.

They fell short in many areas in Klopp’s final campaign, with Slot now needing to address the issues as quickly as possible.

Liverpool still want to sign Teun Koopmeiners from Atalanta

One area that could be strengthened is midfield, with Liverpool weakened in that position after Thiago left upon the expiry of his contract.

The Reds are now eyeing a move for Atalanta ace Teun Koopmeiners, with the ‘extraordinary’ midfielder valued at £50million by the Serie A club

TuttoJuve has now reported that Atalanta’s Italian rivals Juventus are favourites to sign the midfielder, but added that Liverpool have not given up on his signature, particularly given that his current club do not want to sell him to a direct rival.

Liverpool stars shining for the Netherlands at Euro 2024

With 21 caps to his name, Koopmeiners was expected to feature for the Netherlands at Euro 2024 this summer.

But injury ruled out the midfielder from taking part alongside Liverpool stars Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch in Germany.

He did, however, manage to stay fit for the majority of the season, where he helped Atalanta to Europa League glory.

The 26-year-old would be a welcome addition at Anfield, with Koopmeiners able to operate in central, defensive and attacking midfield.

His compatriots are now into the semi-finals of Euro 2024, with Van Dijk reacting to Gakpo on social media after their quarter-final win over Turkey.
