Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold has endured a tricky Euro 2024 so far with Gareth Southgate’s England.
The right-back had been utilised in midfield in the nation’s early matches in Germany, but was then dropped to the bench in favour of more natural midfield players.
Former England striker Gary Lineker felt plenty of sympathy for the Liverpool ace, claiming he has been ‘hung out to dry’ at the major tournament.
But the player has not given up despite the tricky situation, with Alexander-Arnold earning hero status after his latest efforts on the pitch.
The Liverpool defender entered as a late substitute as England’s clash with Switzerland went into extra-time.

The two nations had played out a 1-1 draw in the quarter-finals, with Bukayo Saka levelling after Breel Embolo’s opener.
Penalties then arrived in Germany, with Alexander-Arnold firing home the winner from the spot to secure a 5-3 shootout victory.

Alexander-Arnold took to social media to celebrate the success, writing on Instagram: ‘Pressure makes diamonds’.
And among those reacting were his England teammates Jude Bellingham and Anthony Gordon, with the former writing ‘Your moment!’ and the latter sending two fire emojis.

It could have been easy for the Liverpool star to shy away from the spotlight and come up short when it really mattered.
But Alexander-Arnold cooly dispatched his penalty, with his England teammates also impressing with their penalties.

Cole Palmer, Bellingham, Saka and Ivan Toney all found the back of the net in the shootout, with Switzerland’s Manuel Akanji the only player to miss across both teams.
Alexander-Arnold’s Three Lions teammates Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice have also been sending messages of support on Instagram, while his fellow Anfield ace Harvey Elliott simply wrote ‘Cold’.
New Liverpool manager Arne Slot meanwhile has already addressed his position dilemma, with the Dutchman planning to have a talk with the right-back in private over his role next season.
