Liverpool’s win over Brighton yesterday could yet prove to be a big one in the context of this season’s Premier League.
With Manchester City and Arsenal drawing later on at the Etihad Stadium, it means that the Reds are now two points clear with nine games to play.
For some – including Manchester United legend Roy Keane – this now makes them favourites for the title. But aside from any championship ramifications, the match was also notable for another goal from Mohamed Salah.
Liverpool have missed their Egyptian King while he’s been out injured this season. But after scoring against United and then spending the international break at home on Merseyside, he’s well and truly back.
Salah’s goal on Sunday earned his team three massive points, but also hauled him level with two Premier League greats in yet another record.

What record has Mohamed Salah equalled
During his time at Liverpool, Salah has rewritten the Premier League record books. The phrase ‘only Mo Salah has more’ can often be seen in supposedly impressive stats about current players.
Some may have forgotten it while he’s been out injured, but the 31-year-old is having another vintage season with the Reds.
His left-footed strike against Brighton was his 16th goal in the league this season. Although he’s missed six games for Liverpool, only Erling Haaland has more. Having also registered nine assists, Salah now has 25 goal contributions in the Premier League this season.
As it turns out, Mo has hit that number in each of his seven campaigns with Liverpool. And according to TNT Sports on X, only Thierry Henry and Alan Shearer have managed that feat before.
Seven season with 25 or more goal contributions. That’s special. If he wasn’t already, Salah is now well and truly among the division’s best ever players.
Will Salah still be at Liverpool next season
Of course, the big question for everyone will be whether Mo can stay at Liverpool and earn himself this record outright.
There’s no guarantee that he’d be able to hit 25 or more contributions again next season. But given his extraordinary consistency, you wouldn’t bet against him at all.
For the time being, it seems very likely that the Saudi Clubs will resurrect their interest in signing Salah this summer. It all depends on his intention to stay and whether Liverpool feel they need the £100m+ his sale would bank.
With Jurgen Klopp set to leave, this isn’t really something we want to contemplate at the moment. However, we’d argue that it would be a slight surprise to see Mo stick around to break this particular record. Let’s hope we’re wrong. For now, let’s just enjoy one of the most consistent goal scorers of any era.
