Alexis Mac Allister raves about what ‘amazing’ Liverpool player did against Brighton yesterday

Alexis Mac Allister was comfortably Liverpool’s best player against Brighton on Sunday.

The Reds were dealt a little bit of a shock by the Seagulls, going a goal behind inside two minutes. With title rivals Manchester City and Arsenal facing off later in the day, nothing but a win would do.

Thankfully, Liverpool were able to turn things around. Luis Diaz got a well-finished equaliser before the Mac Allister show commenced.

Lauded as ‘world class’ for his game-winning pass for Mohamed Salah, the 25-year-old was faultless all match long.

However, Mac Allister wasn’t the only one in red to stand out. And speaking to LFCTV after the match, Liverpool’s No.10 hailed one of his teammates.

Alexis Mac Allister not the only star vs Brighton

It’s fair enough that the bulk of the praise for yesterday’s game has gone to Mac Allister. Liverpool wouldn’t have won the game without him.

Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi is well aware of the Argentine’s qualities, having managed him for just under a season at Brighton last year. And the 44-year-old raved about the quality his old charge showed at Anfield yesterday.

As for Mac Allister himself, he’s a humble man and you get the impression he doesn’t like to talk about himself all that much.

As a result, the World Cup winner took the chance to praise the performance of young Jarell Quansah instead.

“He was amazing,” Mac Allister raved. “I think the job he did with Virg [Van Dijk] is so important for the team because it gives us that calmness we need to play football. Even on the ball he was amazing. Very happy and very glad for him.”

Jarell Quansah passes Brighton test

Having started games against Manchester’s City and United just before the international break, it was not a surprise to see Quansah in the starting XI yesterday.

We’d half-expected to see Ibrahima Konate after he was playing for France in midweek. However, the 24-year-old was seemingly not ready to play – despite getting a full 90 minutes under his belt for his country. As a result, Quansah was next in line.

It wasn’t always easy for the 21-year-old against the Seagulls. Brighton seemed to be deliberately targeting the right side of he and Conor Bradley. After some first-half discomfort against Simon Adingra though, Quansah and Bradley shored things up after the break.

It’s the latest feather in the cap of the centre-back, who has been the breakout start of the campaign. Konate should be back to face Sheffield United on Thursday, but there’d be no complaints if it’s Quansah again.
